6555 Notes for Robert Baker Warren by Robert M. Decker:

Robert Baker Warren, who was always referred to as Baker, was a messenger in an Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during WWI. He was killed in the line of duty in Argonne, France 11 Nov 1918, the very day the Armistice was signed. He dove into a shell hole to excape a bombardment, but was hit by an incoming shell. Ironically, Robert was hospitalized earlier in 1918 for exposure to mustard gas and was offered the opportunity to go home, but he refused. This information was passed to Robert's sister, Lucy Beatrice Warren, in a letter from a young man who served with Baker. Robert M. Decker wrote (20 Aug 1999) that he believed Baker Warren was in Company F., but wasn't sure of the Regiment.

The government paid a monthly pension to Baker's mother, Lucy McConnell Warren, until her death May 31, 1936. Subsequent to her death, a final payment of $1,602 was made to be divided among all living heirs of Baker Warren. Source: Petition for Letters of Administration for the Estate of Robert Baker Warren, filed by Jacob A. Warren in Clay County, Illinois July 24, 1936.

6564 Notes from Bill & Barb Maglone:

"Bill Maglone has a copy of Rachael and Lysander Taylor's Marriage license.

On November 9, 1884, in Noble Township, Rachel married her first husband, Lysander Taylor. Lysander was 15 years older than Rachel. He was born in Sheffield, Ashtabula County, Ohio, the son of Edmond H. Taylor and Elizabeth Goulette. Together, Rachel and Lysander had four children -- daughters Effie, Clara, and Chloe, and son, E. Coyson Taylor. Lysander died in 1901.

A few years later, on 22 Dec 1904, Rachel married a local widower, James William Maddox. James was born about 1857 in Noble, the son of John Maddox and Mary Eleanor Bowen. They appeared together on the 1910 census in Noble, Illinois, but by 1915 they had separated or divorced. James moved to Iowa and lived with one of his sons, while Rachel stayed in Noble. Rachel finally died on 20 Aug 1934 in Noble Township, Richland County, Illinois. She went under her surname "Maddox" since 1904 (which is the name on her death certificate), but she is apparently buried under the name Taylor.

6566 Notes from Bill & Barb Maglone:

"This information was given to Bill and Barb by Bernard and Maxine Maglone in Slaughter, LA. When the James Maglone family moved to Indiana Bernard Maglone moved to LA and that is where almost 50 of his decendants still live."
Maglone, Bernard (I1507)

6567 Notes from Bill & Barb Maglone:

"This information was retrieved off of a census record. The name is also spelled "Mcgloan"

James Maglone was born in County Monaghan, Ireland in the year of 1782. About 1812 he married Mary Landers, born 01 Nov 1797 (baptised 26 Nov 1797) near Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York). She also died in 1853.

According to granddaughter Mae Wilson, the James Maglones came West during the great Westward movement when the territory was opened and trade was being developed. It was the age of canals and railroad construction. Mary Landers Maglone told her grandchildren that they had lived in the canebreaks of Indiana and that she had washed their clothes in the Patoka River.

James probably labored on the canals while in Indiana. From Indiana they went to the prairie between Olney and Noble, Illinois. He bought land and built a cabin for his family. His boys were big enough to farm so he left his wife and family to care for the farm while he went to Kentucky to work. He was a gardener and did landscape gardening for Henry Clay at Lexington, Kentucky.

When he had saved enough money to buy another forty acres he would return to Illinois and buy another piece of land. He would then go back to Lexington and Frankfort for his gardening.

The land referred to by Mae Wilson is located on highway 250 between Olney and Noble, Illinois and is across the highway from Shiloh #2 cemetery where James Maglone is buried. In the same cemetery is buried his son Thomas Maglone. It is felt that Mary Landers Maglone is also buried there but there is no proof of that.
Maglone, James (I1503)

6568 Notes from Bill & Barb Maglone:

"This James Maglone and Mary (Henson) Maglone is where Bill Maglone and most of you come from. We also have a copy of their marriage licens. James and Sarah were married in the residence of Allen Williams."
Maglone, James (I81)

6569 Notes from Bill & Barb Maglone:

"Thomas is buried in Shiloh #2 cemetery 20 feet east of his father James beside a large pine tree. The stone is on the south side of the tree. Some of this information was receivd from Joe Wilson and Edna Meadows, some of Thomas Maglone's descendants. Given to Bill and Barb Maglone. Bill has a copy of the marriage license and a probate document for Thomas Maglone."

6585 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"Axel Bauder documents Jakob as dying in Schura, not Schwenningen." (END OF QUOTE)

God parents were Old Hans Schrenk, widower; Johannes Mehne, carpenter, and Brigitta, wife of Johannes Mueller.
Jauch, Jakob (I2935)

6586 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"Because she died before her aunt Waldburga, her name does not appear on the "Waldburga List" of heirs in 1665."
Jauch, Anna (I9760)

6587 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"Conrad Jauch, b. 19 Feb 1665 in Schwenningen, d. 12 Mar 1723 in Schwenningen. He married Maria Lauffer, married 17 Oct 1687 in Schwenningen, Wurttemberg, b. 17 Nov 1665 in Schwenningen, (daughter of Christian Lauffer and Anna Schlenker) d. 3 Aug 1708 in Schwenningen. May have had a son, Christian, who marries Maria on 23 Jul 1715.

In the Schwenningen church death records, there is a Conrad Jauch listed as father for a number of children who died between 1695 and 1707-- the right age for children of *this* Conrad Jauch. The were:

Maria, b. ??, d. 22 Jun 1695, age ??
Ursula, b. abt. 1695; d. 28 Aug 1703, age 8?
Catharina, b. abt. 1699, d. 28 Apr 1707, age 8
Maria, b. abt. 1702, d. 18 Feb 1703, age 1

Children:
4. i Christian Jauch b. 24 Aug 1688." (END OF QUOTE)
JAUCH, Conrad (I9124)

6588 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"From Axel Bauder 25 Aug 2004: "Two years ago I searched the oldest church records particularly for "Jauch"
(1652 - ca. 1707). During this I noted down Jakob Jauch was buried 16. January 1697, Age 72."

"Schwenningen church death records identify four children who had Jakob Jauch and Agnes as parents during this time period:

Agatha, b. abt. 1653; d. 16 Dec 1684, age 31y
Maria, b. abt Oct/Nov 1662; d. 21 Mar 1675, age 12y, 5m
Georg? b. abt. 23 March 1664; d. 31 Mar 1664; 8 days old
Georg, b. 1670; d. 11 Jan 1671; 3 months old"
Jauch, Jakob (I9763)

6589 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"From Axel Bauder, email of 22 August 2004:
"In 1990, Manfred Reinartz (then director of the local museum) published in a book the most (but not all) of the 'Inventuren-u. Teilungen.' These are lists which were written down after the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) [in order to address] qutions of property ownership after the war and after deaths of persons [who died in the war]. The lists started in 1649 (three years before the parish register commenced). [The lists] contain personal dates and pecuniary circumstances about the inhabitants of Schwenningen, also about the individuals who had not survived the war. (In February 1633 Schwenningen was destroyed. The first inhabitants returned in autumn 1634.) [The lists document that:] On 1 April 1665 died Walburga Jauch agged 80 years. [The list indicates that] she was a sister of Veit Jauch. She had no children. Her heirs were the children of two dead sisters and the children of dead Veit Jauch. His children are mentioned as follows : 'Michael, Jakob, Christian, Hieronimus, Martin, Agnesa. Die Jauchen, alle verbürgert zu Schwenningen' (the Jauchs all living in Schwenningen) SO IN MY OPINION MICHAEL JAUCH IS THE SON OF VEIT JAUCH."

Original language concerning Veit:
Unnd dann Ihres im Herrn entschlaffnen Brueders Veith Jauchen seeligen, verlassene 6 Künder, Nahmens
Michael, Jacob, Christian, Hieronimus, Martin und Agnesa, die Jauchen, alle zue Schwenningen verburgert.
(City archives Schwenningen A. N., reference number system NR. 9130)

Before his marriage to Female Unknown, he apparently was married to Ursula Unknown (according to Peter Schifferdecker).

While a history indicates that Veit and his wife (whichever one) did not survive the 30-year war (which ended 1648), another source indicates that he sold his St. Georges property to his son Christian in 1656 for 926 fl. He is referred to as deased in the 1657 marriage record of his son Hieronymous.

He married Ursula UNKNOWN, married ABT 1617 in (based on age of child), b. ABT 1597 in (based on age of child), d. BEF 1660 in (referred to as deceased in 1660 death record of daughter). Apparently there were two wives.
We know for sure that Ursula was married to Veit by 1642, because their daugther Katherine is identified as Ursula's daughter on Katherina's 1652 death, which also indicates Katharine was 18.

From Peter Schifferdecker's site:
"the married couple did not survive the 30jaehrigen war" (in accordance with Heimatblaettle Schwenningen October 1998 page 5)." (END OF QUOTE)
Jauch, Veith (I9128)

6590 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"I found her in the 1670 marriage records of Schwenningen. She is identified as the daughter of Michael Jauch; I do not have proof that she is the daughter of THIS Michael Jauch, but he is of the right age; in addition, Michael is married to a Katharina, and it would be a likely name for a daughter."
Jauch, Catharina (I7243)

6591 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"I'm not 100% positive that Christian is son of THIS Conrad, but the age is about right. See 1658745, Marriages 1715, p. 41.

He married Maria Birk, married 23 Jul 1715 in Schwenningen, Wurttemberg, b. 28 Mar 1692 in Trossingen (per IGI), (daughter of Johann Jakob Birk and Catharina Unknown) d. 6 Aug 1757 in Schwenningen.
Children:
5. i Jakob Jauch b. 31 Dec 1729." (END OF QUOTE)
Jauch, Christian 'Heitl' (I9122)

6592 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"Michael Schlenker (conrady3@compuserve.de) is descended from this line. The descendant, Andreas Schlenker (1742-1819) emigrated to Borodino, Bessarabia where he settled and died. Michael Schlenker's grandparents fled Bessarabia during WWII and settled in North Germany."
Schlenker, Georg (I9821)

6593 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"Peter Schifferdecker claims that Michael Jauch married again in 1663 to Susanna Kitzlin.

Peter Betz (http://gw.geneanet.org/index.php3?b=peterbetz&lang=en;p=michael;n=jauch) claims that Michael is the son of Michael Jauch and Katharina Schuler. (Beate Graf believes this also.) See notes under VEIT JAUCH for why I believe that Michae was son of Veit, not of Michael."

"Peter Schifferdecker found an entry in some sort of stocktaking and division book in Schwenningen (I used babelfish.altavista.com to translate, so I'm not sure I've got that right...), which refers to Michael Jauch being married to Katharina, daughter of Hanss Jauch. German language is this:

(Eintrag im Inventur- und Teilungsbuch Schwenningens vom 21.10.1653)
"Allß sich vor ungevahr 14 Jahren ... Michael Jauch, Innwohner zue Schweningen, ... und Catharina, weylundt Hannß Jauchen seligen, hinderlaßne Dochter daselbsten heürathlichen zuesamen verleobet ..."
Jauch, Michael (I7238)

6594 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"Peter Schifferdecker documents this Hieronymus as son of Veith Jauch, b. abt. 1594 Schwenningen.

Close look at marriage and death records appears to support the notion that Heironymous Jauch had three wives:
1. 1657: marries Anna Stillin-Staehlin; she dies 16 June 1661.
2. Then in 1661, he marries Maria Stenge; she dies 30 June 1682. [Can't decipher enough to see if this Hieronymous is identified as a widower.]
3. Then on 05 February 1683, he marries Magdalena Sichlaus? Sichland? dau of Hanss, maurer from Tuttlingen. (Hieronymus is identified as a widow.)

There is an entry in the "Inventur- and Teilungsbuch Schwenningens from 15. June 1683. [German text in documents attached to email.]

"About one year ago died Maria Stengin, wife of Hieronimus Jauchen, tailor, inhabitant in Schwenningen. She had together with her husband Hieronimus Jauch four children, named:
Christian, Maria, Anna, and Agathe, all still unmarried.
Furthermore he (Hieronymus Jauch) had with his previous wife, Anna Stellin, also two children, named:
Hannß, and
Ursula,

Last interruption:
It is to know, that this man Hieronymus Jauch was married again with Magdalena, the widow of Hanß Sichler, mason, dead citizen from Tuttlingen. ......
She (Magdalena) had with Hanß Sichler, mason, four children, named:
Maria, Hanß, Baestlin and Leonhard, all still unmarried.

This entry shows that Hieronymus Jauch was married 3 times.

Hieronymus Jauch didn't die in 1662 (this was my mistake). I think that your 15. May 1701 is the correct date.

The second woman Maria Stenge is the daughter of Martin Stenge from Tuttlingen (entry in the Inventur- and Teilungsbuch from 27. November 1771)

Father of Hieronymus Jauch

There is no birth record of Hieronymus Jauch. In 1635 (calculated year of birth) Schwenningen was destroyed from the soldiers of Villingen and the inhabitants flew.

Veith Jauch (born 1594) had a sister, Walldburga Jauch, the wife of Erhard Schentzlin. She died 1665. There is an entry in the Inventur- and Teilungsbuch from 25. April 1665, in which her brother Veith ist named with his 6 children: Michael, Jacob, Christian, Hieronimus, Martin and Agnes, die Jauch, all citizens in Schwennngen. From This entry I conlude that Hieronimus is the son of Veith."

6595 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"Researchers working on this branch should be very careful if they are relying on information obtained prior to March 2004-- even official information from the town of Schwenningen. An error made by transcribers in Schwenningen as far back as 1810 resulted in the town of Schwenningen sending out incorrect information to researchers. This information, containing as it did the official seal of Schwenningen, was taken as accurate for many years. Research conducted on the microfilmed church records (births, marriages, deaths) by Jillaine Smith and confirmed by Axel Bauder in early 2004 resulted in finding this error, but it may not be corrected in all places.

The error can be traced back to Schwenningen Family Registry, Volume I (FHL #1658747, Band 24). This volume records Jacob Jauch b. 31 Dec 1729 TWICE (I-112 and I-122), but only one of them is correct (I-122).

Closer examination reveals that there are TWO Jakob Jauchs (J1 and J2), sons of TWO different Christian Jauchs (C1 and C2), married to TWO different ANNAs (A1 and A2), who got mixed up in early Schwenningen record-keeping-- specifically whene first family registries were created back about 1810. The correct information (with associated source information) is:

J1. Jakob Jauch, b. 31 Dec 1729 (FHL #1658743, Band 1, Baptisms, p. 270: parents: Christian Jauch (C1) and Maria Burckh). Dies 15 December 1812.

Familienbuch Vol I-112 (Band 24) says the Jakob Jauch born 1729 is son of Christian Jauch (C2) and Anna Jaeckle (incorrect; their son was born in 1732). The Jakob who married Anna Schneckenburger in 1762 was born in March 1732 (J2). Thed on this Vol I-112 (Band 24) are actually the children of J2 and A2.

Familienbuch V-122 (Band 24) is the correct family page for the "J1" Jakob (b. 31 Dec 1729), and accurately documents that this Jakob (J1) is son of Christian Jauch (C1) and Maria Birk (married 1715) and that he married in 1756 Anna Haus)f Hanss Martin Hausser and Ottilia Schlenker). The church marriage record (FHL #1658745 - Marriages 1756, pp. 81-82) says: 27 Jan 1756: Jakob Jauch, son of Christian Jauch; marries Anna, daughter of Hanss Martin Hausser.

Furthermore, the 22 March 1773 birth of daughter Anna Jauch (FHL INTL Film 1658743 Items 3-6, page 180) indicates that her parents were Jacob Jauch and Anna Hausser. Her father Jacob is referred to as "Heitl sohn" (son of Heitl)

The 1756 marriage record of Jacob Jauch and Anna Hausser (Schwenningen Evangelische Kirche, FHL #1658745, Marriages 1756, p. 81-82) indicates that Jacob's father is Christian Jauch, nicknamed Heitl or Hirtl. This Christian Jauch, again identifd with a nickname of "Heitl", dies in 1757 at the age of 68y 4m 10d (FHL INTL Film 1658745, page 171), placing his birth 24 Aug 1688.

J2. Jakob Jauch, b. 23 March 1732 [FHL #1658743, Band 1, Baptisms, p. 277:] parents: Christian Jauch (C2) and Anna Jaeckle (their marriage is found in 1726). Jakob Jauch (J2) married in 1762 (Schwenningen Evangelische Kirch, FHL #1658745, Marrages 1762, p. 103) Anna Schneckenburger (A2), dau of Johannes Schneckenburger and Ursula Moench of Beisingen. FHL #1658745, Marriages 1762, p. 103: 22 Sep 1762: Jakob Jauch, weber, son of Christian Jauch, bauer; marries Anna, daughter of Johannes Schneckenburger. Additional evidence may be found through this death record: The Jacob Jauch who died on 27 March 1783 (FHL INTL Film 1658745, Deaths, page 126/127) was identified as a weaver and "kaelberhirth" (cowboy), and his age at his death was 51y, 4 d, placing his birth in March 1732.

The 26 Oct 1769 birth of a son Jacob Jauch (FHL INTL Film 1658743 Items 3-6, page 149) identifies his parents as Jacob Jauch, weber and kaelberhirth (cowboy), and Anna Schneckenburger. That means that weaver and cowboy Jacob was born in 1732d married Anna Schneckenburger in 1762 (and died in 1783).

I discarded the possibility that these were the same Jakob with two different, sequential wives because the births of the children overlap, and Anna Hausser does not die until 1797, well after the 1762 marriage of Jakob Jauch to Anna Schneckenbger (and I have seen no evidence of divorce in this town at this time). To underscore that they are not two different wives of the same Jakob:
* The children of Anna Hausser are born between 1756 and 1765 (if I'm reading FR I-122 correctly).
* The children of Anna Schneckbenburger are born between 1762 and 1776 (FR I-112).

He married Anna Hausser, married 27 Jan 1756 in Schwenningen, Wurttemberg, b. 15 Dec 1729 in Schura or Schwenningen, Wurttemberg, (daughter of Johann Martin Hausser and Otillia Schlenker) d. 14 Feb 1797 in Schwenningen. There is a faint notatn on their family page (Band 24, FR vol I, #122), underneath the names of Jakob's parents. Return to film and try to decipher." (END OF QUOTE)
Jauch, Jakob (I9121)

6596 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"Starting abt 1682, this Michael seems to be married to Agnes WEYLER. So look for a death for Agnes Lauffer, or look for baptisms with her as mother after this date, in case this is a different Michael. Mmm.. I see both WEYLER and LAUFFER having children in the same time period."
Jauch, Michael (I7241)

6597 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"There's a Veit Jauch married to a Barbara and has a child Maria who dies in 1681, age 8 weeks?

There is a son of Michael Jauch who marries 18 Oct 1676, but it's near the bottom of the page and nearly illegible. "
Jauch, Veith (I7244)

6598 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

"While the 1685 marriage record makes it look like Hanss' father is either Jakob or Karl, Peter Schifferdecker documents Hanss as being the sone of Michael. Double-check.

There is also an earlier marriage in 1680 (FHL# 1658745) of Hanss Jauch, but can't decipher who he marries. Ah... Peter Schifferdecker documents an earlier marriage of Hanss to Agathe Schlenker. (but no date).

On the baptism records of his children he is identified as "Johannes"."
Jauch, Johannes 'Hanss' (I4545)

6599 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

Anna Stenge, married 29 Apr 1657 in Schwenningen, b. ABT 1637 in Tuttlingen (per Axel Bauder), (daughter of Conrad Stenge) d. 29 Jan 1692 in Schwenningen.

Anna: The "Stenge" was added later (different handwriting) in the baptism records of many of her children.
In the Schwenningen church death records 1659-1677, there are a number of children born to Christian Jauch and Anna Unknown who would be the right age to be children of this couple. They were:

Christian, b. abt. Aug 1659; d. 9 Sep 1659; age 3 weeks
Christian, b. abt. 1666, d. 13 Feb 1667; age 6 months
Johannes, b. Jan 1671; d. 5 Feb 1674, age 3y 1m
Martin, d. 3 Dec 1675, no age given or legible
Johannes, b. Apr 1677; d. 9 Mar 1678; age 11 mos

And the baptism/birth records for these children have "STENGE" added in different handwriting as the surname of Anna, wife of Christian.

Since there are no other Christians married and having children at this time, I am going to go with Anna "Stenge" as this Christian's wife." (END OF QUOTE)
Jauch, Christian (I9126)

6600 Notes from Jillaine Smith:

I believe this to be the Hanss Martin Jauch, who first married Barbara Kaefer/Kaiser. She died in 1671, age 38. (Peter Schifferdecker claims this, too.)

Check this Martin's marriage record to see if it indicates whether or not he was a widow. [Difficult to decipher]

Also, this might be the Martin Jauch who dies 24 Dec 1678, age 41. (Peter Schifferdecker claims it is, too.) I wonder if this Martin is the same who marries Anna Maria Irion. The ages of the children would support the possibility that the first wife (Barbara Kaiser) died, and that Martin remarried. See if there's a death for Barbara Kaefer/Kaiser between 1668-1671. There is: FHL# 1658745 Deaths: Barbara, wife of Hanss Martin Jauch, d. 14 Mar 1671, age 38.

Peter Schifferdecker claims that this Martin Jauch was born 1637 and died 24 Dec 1578 and was married three times:
m.I 19.09.1656 Schwenningen mit Anna Burger [I have not found this in Schwenningen church records]
m.II 28.01.1662 Schwenningen mit Barbara Kaiser (PS's Person 4.321)
m.III 26.09.1671 Schwenningen mit Maria Irion (PS's Person B545)

Udo Strickfaden sent me the following on 15 March 2004:

JAUCH, Martin b. abt. 1637; died Schwenningen 24.12.1678 (age 41), citizen and weaver in Schwenningen; one of the eight linen weavers after the 30-Year-War.

m1. in Schwenningen 28.1.1662:
KAISER, Barbara, ev.-luth., b. in Tuningen abt. 1663], d. in Schwenningen 3.1671 (in childbed with her child), age 38; daughter of Bartholomaeus Kaiser, burger und inhabitant of Tuningen.

m2. in Schwenningen 26.9.1671:
IRION, Anna (alias Maria), b. abt. 1646 (baptism book from Talheim is missing); d. in Schwenningen 31.1.1724, age 77 1/2; in first marriage, mother of 3; in second marriage, mother of 5 -- 3 sons, 2 daughters. (Anna-Maria Irion's second marriage was in Schwenningen 23.6.1679 to BIDERMANN, Jakob, ev.-luth., citizen and weaver, age 30...)
