Mennie Marie ROBBINS, 84, of Sesser died 7:14 p.m. Jan. 1, 1997, at Herrin Hospital. Mrs. ROBBINS was a housewife.

Born Jan. 22, 1912, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of Clarence HAMMONDS and Sybble ROBERSON. She married Virgil ROBBINS Oct. 13, 1928, in Franklin County; he preceded her in death.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Brayfield Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan WILLIAMS officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

She was a member of Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Christian.

Survivors include son Robert Dean ROBBINS and wife June of Mulkeytown; a brother, Jess HAMMONDS of Sesser; sisters, Eunice BROWN and Mary PIACENTINI of Sesser and Grace KIRK of Galien, Mich.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Glenda Kay SWALLS of Herrin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and seven brothers and sisters.

7954 Robby and Jody Hazel, of Noble, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Levi Wayne Hazel, born July 13, 2005 at 4:55 p.m. at the Richland Memorial Hospital. He weighed in at seven pounds and 15 ounces.

Paternal grandparents include Bob Hazel of Geff, and Ruth Ann Hazel of Mt. Erie. Maternal grandparents include Larry and Rhonda Hemrich of Noble.

Paternal great-grandparents include Late Roy Hazel and Maxine Hazel of Wynoose and the late Clifford and late Margaret McDowell of Noble.

Maternal great-grandparents include Ronald and Sue Diel of Noble and the late Ben and the late Marjorie Hemrich of Noble.

Welcoming home the bundle of joy are sisters Emily Hazel and Emma Reynolds, and brothers, Tanner Hazel and Cody Reynolds.

7955 Robert "Bob" Lynn Gray, 90, of Olney, Illinois, formerly of Clay City, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Helia Healthcare of Olney.

Bob was born January 23, 1932 in Clay City, the son of Jasper and Mary (Mitchell) Gray. He married Phyllis Grogan on July 12, 1952 in Olney, and she survives.

Bob worked as a substitute bus driver and a custodian for Olney schools. He was also a Korean War Veteran. He served from August 6, 1952 until May 5, 1954. Bob loved to fish and spend time with his family. He also loved to travel and go camping. Bob will be missed dearly by those that knew him.

Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Phyllis Gray of Olney, IL; 1 daughter, Vicky Strange of Fairfield, IL; 1 son, Dale (Dixie) Gray of San Leon, TX; 5 grandchildren, Caleb Gray, Brian Gray, Kelsie (Brian) Holmes, Trevor (Lynzi) Strange, and Andrea (Logan) Walker; 1 step-granddaughter Katina Strange; 3 great-grandchildren, Hadley, Eli, and Micah and 2 step great grandchildren, Reyna and Evan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.

A funeral service for Bob will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning one hour prior to service time.

Interment will follow at Maple Dale Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be performed at the graveside.

Memorials can be made to Richland County Hope.

7956 Robert "Bob" W. Colborn, 81, of Winnebago, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at the Freeport Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Mr. Colborn was born April 21, 1925 in Ingraham, the son of Eldon and Pauline (Jones) Colborn. He married Mary Ann Merchant in Lanark on April 1, 1951.

He attended public schools in Flora and was an all-state selection in both football and basketball in the 1940s.

He served in the U.S. Marines from March 1943 to June 1946 and from February 1951 to February, 1952. He attended SIU from 1946 to 1950, earning a B.S. in education, and was a four-year starter in both football and basketball, and received the outstanding athletic award in 1950. He was president of his senior class, a member of SIU Athletic Hall of Fame for football and basketball, and a member of Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. He received his master's degree from SIU in 1960 and had an additional year and half study at NIU. He was a coach and teacher at Lanark, Carbondale, West Frankfort and Murphysboro; coach and dean of students at Sterling High School; administrator at Rock Falls and Ottawa High Schools, and served as superintendent of Winnebago schools for 19 years, retiring in 1991. He then served as an interim administrator for Pecatonica, Eastland,
Stockton and Freeport.

He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Colborn; five sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Nancy Colborn, Joseph Colborn, John Colborn, Tim and Jana Colborn, and Jeff and Carol Colborn; and grandchildren, Krista, Kyle, Kayla, Hilary, Will, Grant and Clay Colborn.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, William Gordon Colborn, and one sister, Margaret Prescott.

Burial was in Winnebago Cemetery.

Memorials were directed to Winnebago School District.

7957 Robert "Bob" William Odell, 87, of Albion, IL formerly of Flora, died at 6:30 AM on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at his home in Albion.

Bob was born on June 23, 1925 in Flora to Hugh E. and Vera (Winchester) O'Dell. He married Betty L. Lee on September 18, 1946 in Morganfield, KY. She preceded him in death on August 5, 1997. He later married Charlene L. (Gaston) Meserole on June 30, 1999 in Branson, MO.

Bob was Gas Superintendent for over 30 years for the City of Flora and also operated a fire extinguisher business. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator.

On April 4, 1960, Bob joined the Flora Volunteer Fire Department and for the next 27 years he served the department in several capacities. He was elected Assistant Chief on January 5, 1970 and two years later on January 3, 1972 was elected and served as Chief until his resignation on January 22, 1979. Bob remained on the department and served as an operations officer from February 1981 until his retirement from the department on January 1, 1987.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Flora and had more recently had been attending the Golden Gate United Methodist Church in Golden Gate, IL where he played the guitar, organ, and was a pastoral assistant. Playing by ear, Bob enjoyed music and played several instruments including the guitar, bass guitar, piano, organ and keyboards. He was a fan of both country and gospel music.

He also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas every year where he participated in nearby music jams. He also found time to enjoy photography, scrapbooking, computers, and oil painting. But most of all, Bob loved his family.

He is survived by his wife: Charlene Odell; son: Bill (Jane) O'Dell; step-children: Charles Meserole, Shirley (Jack) Metcalf, Scott (Lacey) Meserole, Bill Meserole; sister: Mary Jane (Tom) Hill; grandchildren: Rory (Kaci) O'Dell, Mina O'Dell-Wood; step-grandchildren: Lindy, Jacob, Ally and Molly, also Sawyer and Callie Meserole, Justin (Rachel) Howard, along with other step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews who also survive. Bob also leaves many friends including his lifelong friend, Sam Howell.

The funeral service for Bob Odell was held at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, with full military honors.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Flora Volunteer Fire Department and will be received at the funeral home.

7958 Robert (Bob) Gordon Hutchison, age 82, Loma Linda, passed away on Saturday morning, July 17, 2021 at his home with family by his side.

Bob was born February 16, 1939 in Clay City, Illinois, son of the late Robert Franklin Hutchison and Hazel Bernice (Stanford) Hutchison. He graduated from Clay City High School, and then graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL, with a degree in Journalism. He then served in the United States Army for two years.

In January 1965, Bob married the love of his life, Barbara Jo Adams, and resided in the St. Louis area for almost ten years. He then lived in Sullivan, Missouri, where he and Barbara raised their four children. Bob experienced a fulfilling 30-year career at Maritz Motivation, INC, Fenton, MO. After retiring, he and Barbara moved to Loma Linda in 2004 to be near family in Joplin.

Bob was a dedicated family man, and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and brother- and sister-in-law, Jim and Kathy Adams. He was an active member of his community, serving on the Loma Linda Board of Trustees, as well as his church, serving as deacon and volunteering in various outreaches. His passion was sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ by helping those in need. He did this through his involvement with Gideons International, Watered Gardens Ministries, Mission Joplin, Life Choices crisis pregnancy center, and benevolence outreaches through his church. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors, playing golf, gardening, and corresponding with loved ones. More recently, he developed greeting cards for various occasions, which he often sent to family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Doyle.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Jo (Adams) Hutchison; children, Christine Paynton and husband Calvin of Wylie, Texas; Susan Crumley and husband John of Marion, IL; Robert Kim Hutchison and wife Crystal of Royersford, PA; and Alison Hillard and husband Rob of Carl Junction, MO; grandchildren, Garrett Paynton and wife Brittney, Matthew Paynton and wife Haylee, Megan Paynton, Samantha Paynton, Morgan Hutchison, Sydney Hutchison, Aidan Hillard, Cate Hillard, Julia Hillard, Rachel Hillard, Alanna Crumley, and Jaydon Crumley; great-grandchildren, Carter and Maverick; sister, Kyma Johnson and husband Gary; several nieces and nephews, and his favorite aunt, Wilma Knowles.

Funeral service will be Friday, July 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church, 730 S Range Line Rd, Joplin, with Gary Allen and John Crumley officiating.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

7959 Robert Arthur Miller, 88, of Bloomfield passed away Thursday March 26, 2015 at his residence.

Born February 20, 1927 in Bloomfield, Indiana the son of Arthur and Eva (Wright) Miller.

Robert was a self employed farmer and a member of the Sylvania Wesleyan Church in Bloomfield.

Surviving relatives include his children, Sharon Miller of Bloomfield and Steve Miller of Clayton, Indiana; he has five grandchildren, Aaron Miller, Stephanie Bansal, Ryan Miller, Jason Miller and Beth Anderson, he has eleven great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis (Hasler) Miller on March 21, 2003, one brother Ted Miller and his parents.

Friends may call from 2:30 P.M. on Saturday until the hour of service at the Sylvania Wesleyan Church in Bloomfield.

Services will be held at 4:30 P.M. at the Sylvania Wesleyan Church in Bloomfield with Pastor Dave Taylor and Pastor Bob England officiating. Burial will follow at Flater Cemetery in Bloomfield.

7963 Robert Berlin Frank, 88, of Dover, N. H., formerly of Clay City, IL, died Aug. 3, 2004, at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center in Dover. N. H. after a period of failing health.

He was born March 16, 1916 in Clay City, the son of Sam & Katie Montgomery Frank. He married Florence Pridemore. She preceded him in death.

He was a retired farmer and welder and a U. S. Army veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sue Hale; a son, Donald Frank; five sisters, Blanche Crouse, Deanne Moseley, Kathryn Milner, Faye Franklin, & Mary Lou Hulsey; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, two sons, David and John; three sisters, Alberta, Bonnie, and Shirley, and three brothers Sam Jr., Galen, & Richard.

A private graveside service was held at Smith Cemetery in Sailor Springs, IL.

7964 Robert Charles Stiff, son of John and Hattie Hoover Stiff, was born February 27, 1916, near Dundas, Illinois. He attended Dundas Grade School, Newton and Olney High Schools, graduating in May of 1933. After graduation he farmed on the family farm until April 13, 1941, when was called into active duty in the U.S. Army.

His basic training was at Camp Forest, Tennessee, followed by Officer's Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Upon completion of the initial part of his training, 2nd Lieutenant Robert Stiff continued his training at Fort Crook, Nebraska's Motor Vehicle School and then on to Texas in preparation for overseas duty. On January 1, 1944, he left for duty in the Pacific Theatre spending time at Bougainville and east of Manila, the Philippines, where his company was responsible for setting up water supply centers for the troops. He served there until November of 1945 at which time Captain Stiff returned to the United States. Bob was reunited with Eileen Kermicle Stiff whom he had married on September 3, 1942, after he completed OCS.

The couple returned to the family farm east of Dundas where they raised two sons, milked Jersey cattle, produced row crops, and eventually feeder hogs. He retired from farming in 1986. In November of 1993, Bob and Eileen moved to Olney. Robert was a member of the Dundas Methodist Church until it closed in 1973 when he transferred membership to Immanuel Methodist Church in Olney. He was a 4H leader, a charter member of the Dundas Ruritan, serving as an officer of the board a number of times, and also served on the Richland County Fair Board. Bob and Eileen were avid genealogy researchers and much of their work was compiled in book form for their families. It has been transferred onto Ancestry.com.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen, a son, Michael(Barbara) Stiff of Savoy, Illinois, one grandson, Jason(Amy)Stiff and great granddaughters Christina and Lauren Jo of Pawnee, Illinois, and Brian's widow Julie Stiff and great grandsons Kevin and Brandon of Lyons, Colorado. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Elbert and Eugene Stiff, a son, Edward Stiff and a grandson, Brian Stiff.
His funeral service will be August 26, at 2:00 in the afternoon with burial in Crest Haven Cemetery, Claremont, Illinois. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the American Lung Association ( and select "give in memory").

He was born in Clay County Nov. 27, 1907 to William David Staser and Maggie Taylor. He married Cecil Murbarger who survives, along with three sons, Bill and Bob, both of Clay City and Bruce of Noble; a daughter rs. Patricia Workman of Clay City; three sisters, Mrs.Maude Gill, Mrs. Lottie Loye and Mrs. Louis MaryClark all of Clay City; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be in the Clay City Chapel of Cardascio Funeral Home, with burial in Clay City cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home.

He was preceeded in death by parents, a brother, one son and one daughter.

7966 Robert Dale Bricker, age 77, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Sunday morning, August 4, 2024, at Clay County Hospital.

He was born June 8, 1947, in Clay County, the son of Roy Edward and Erma Marie (Foreman) Bricker. He was united in marriage to Regina Ann Allison in 1967, and together they have shared 57 wedding anniversaries.

Bob had worked numerous years in the oil field prior to retiring from North American Lighting in Flora after 23 years. He enjoyed time spent fishing, golfing, woodworking, gemstone digging, and hunting—especially coon hunting. He always looked forward to spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife: Regina Bricker of Xenia; 3 daughters: Pamela Hall of Louisville, Bobby (Lance) Osborne of Xenia, and Tambra (Greg) Matthews of Fairfield; grandchildren: Gena (Josh) Enlow, Frank (Brittany) Shadwell, Hanna Shadwell (fiancé Victor), Alexis (Dalton) Williams, Hunter Osborne, Zachary (Annie) Matthews, and Nicholas Matthews (Evelyn Crowley); 7 great-grandchildren with another on the way; sisters-in-law: Janet Bricker, Connie Hilderbrand, Phyllis Allison, and Dee Strange; brother-in-law: Gary Frank; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Judy Frank; a brother: Roy Bricker; mother-and-father-in-law: Dave and Fern Allison; 2 brothers-in-law: Laverne Strange and Jim Allison; and nephews: Wayne Allison, Anthony Strange, and Jeff Strange.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening, August 9, 2024, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Private interment will take place in Elmwood Cemetery in Flora at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested to the Mid-America Transplant Family House, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.

7968 Robert Dale Staser, 82, of Noble, died on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at his home.



Robert was born on September 25, 1939 in Clay County, Illinois, the son of Robert David and Cecil (Murbarger) Staser. He married Pat {Patricia Lou} (Iffert) on May 2, 1959 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, and she survives.



Bob loved sports all through school and became a coach at the Clay City grade school and later, the high school. He also enjoyed playing slow pitch and fast pitch softball on several state teams. Bob, just like his mother, was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan.



Bob was always active in the Clay City community and was a volunteer fireman with the CCFD. He was a custodian at the Clay City High School for over 30 years. Bob enjoyed quail hunting with his brother, Bill, and Dutch Hennenberg. His tall tales and wild adventures will be missed by all.



Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pat Staser of Noble; son, Jeff Staser and wife Barb of Effingham, IL; son, Jerry Staser and Luis of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; son, Dan Staser and wife Melissa of Woodridge, IL; grandchildren, Brooke, Carly, Austin, Morgan, Brandi, Drew, and Zac; several great grandchildren; brother, Bill (Elinor) Staser; and numerous nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Peg Garrett and Pat Workman; brothers, Bruce and Daniel Staser.



A visitation will be held for friends and family on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Bob at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin.



Burial will follow the service at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Wendelin.

7969 Robert David Gill was born in Clay County, IL, the son of James & Hettie Allan Gill. He died at the Clay County Hospital inFlora.

On April 3, 1932 he married Bertha Stanford in Louisville. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by daughters Mary Magnus & Velma Hunt; a son, Jack; two brothers, Edward (Pete) and Richard Gill; sisters, Mable Ackerson, Grace Courtright, and Edna Bradley; and nine grandchildren.

Services were held at John T. Frank Funeral Home with bural in Elmwood Cemetery.

Robert was born on May 24, 1935 in Noble, the son of Ralph Earnest and Minerva (Barnett) Pflaum.

He later married Mary Lou Wilson on May 30, 1957 in Olney. She preceded him in death.

He worked as a carpenter for many years. He was a former Village of Noble Trustee, a Master Mason and a U.S. Army Veteran. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, watching Gunsmoke on television and gardening. He will be missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Robert is survived by his 4 daughters, Janet Pflaum and significant other Doug Cassady of Noble, IL, Karla Ridgley of Fairfield, IL, Sherry Hall (Tim) of Florida and Trudy Wheat (Dean) of Fairfield, IL; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Pflaum, parents Ralph and Minerva Pflaum, daughter Cindy O’Dell and one infant grandson Adam McCormick.

Mr. Duff was born March 4, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert and Betty (Miller) Duff.

He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his parents of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Marcia Gilchrist, Cupertino, Ca.; and Debra Duff, Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Funeral services will at 10:30 AM, on Friday, October 3rd, in the Chapel of Stasi-Grove Funeral Home. Burial will in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney with full military rites at the graveside conducted by the Richland County Veterans Organization.

Robert was born on July 28th, 1934 in Noble, the son of Vern and Mina (Campbell) Patterson. He later married Betty L. Aldridge on May 6th, 1965 in Olney. She preceded him in death.

Robert worked on the production line at AMF and maintenance for the Olney Walmart for 18 years and later as a greeter at the Super Walmart in Olney until his death. He was a member of the Christian Church of Olney, and a Korean War Veteran. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and of Nascar Racing. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

He is survived by sons, Joshua Aldridge, and his wife Marlene of St. Cloud, FL., Donald Aldridge, and his wife Rose of Olney, Ronald Aldridge of St. Cloud, FL., brother Sam Patterson of Savannah, GA., sister Cordia Hundley of Olney, Nancy Sivers of Terre Haute, IN., brother in law George Thomas of Noble, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Mina Patterson, wife Betty, 2 brothers, Andy and Vern and sisters Mary Patterson, Rebecca Thomas, 2 half-sisters, Eleanor Middleton, Lola Lake and half-brother, Cecil Patterson.

Mr. Hall was born April 28, 1908 in Richland County, IL the son of Pearly and Della Jones Hall. He married Freda Gordon July 10, 1928, and she survives.

He was a retired Oil field mechanic for Pure Oil and was a member of the Clay City Christian Church and the Noble Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Donald; four daughters, Shelby Bryant, Winona Schnell, Pat Norris, Della Thomas; 29 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, four brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City with Rev. Barry Sikes presiding. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be in the Clay City Cemetery.

7977 Robert G. McDowell, 69, of Olney, died at 4:38 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Services will be Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Rick Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Mr. McDowell was born on February 26, 1939 in Browns, the son of Cloyd and Alta (Bunage) McDowell.

He married Wilma (Thomas) McDowell in 1980. She survives.

He was a musician.

Mr. McDowell is survived by his wife, Wilma McDowell of Olney and his sister, Imogene Kauble of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

7978 Robert Gaylon Colclasure, 66, of Farina, passed away at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at Nature Trail Nursing Home, Mt. Vernon.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1947 in Clay County, the son of Gerald G. and Mary E. (Sapp) Colclasure.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a laborer, worked in the oilfields and was a trucker. He was a member of the Edgewood American Legion Post 1168. He loved to tell stories and play horseshoes and shuffle board. He also loved to go squirrel hunting and fishing.

Gaylon is survived by his sons, Cody, Brian, and Bradley Colclasure; daughter, Della Butler; Brother, Gene Colclasure; sisters, Patsy (husband Bill) Laycoax, Debbie (husband John) Norman, Denise (husband Don) Ellis, and Carol (husband Frank) Miller; step-sister Sharon (Cruse) Werner; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jerry, Lyle Colclasure and Dennis Cruse; and sister, Cheryl Green.

Funeral services were held at Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood.

Interment followed in Iola Cemetery, with full military services.

7979 Robert Gray, special insurance agent for the American Central Company of St. Louis, is a resident of Flora, and a native of Switzerland County, Ind., where he was born May 25, 1843. He is the youngest of a family of thirteen children born to Peter and Nancy (Wright) Gray. His father, who was born in Virginia in 1791, served as a soldier in the war of 1812, completing a term of five years in the regular army. He was reared in Kentucky, to where he returned at the close of his service, and was there married to Nancy Wright. They remained in Kentucky several years, during which time four children were born to them. They emigrated to Indiana and settled near Vevay, in Switzerland County, and there made a residence of several years, and where the rest of their large family were born. In 1852. they removed to Tipton County, Ind., where the parents died, the mother April 11, 1866, and the father in 1877. Robert received a very limited education in his youth, his total attendance in public schools not aggregating more than one year.

In 1862, August 11, he enlisted in Company C, of the One Hundred and First Indiana Regiment, and was wounded and made a prisoner on the 19th of September, 1863, at the battle of Chickamauga, having participated in the fights at Stone River, Milton and Tullahoma. He was retained a prisoner but a short time, after which he was attached to the United States Reserve Corps at Washington City. He was discharged April 14, 1864.

He then returned to Tipton County. Ind. where for two years he engaged in the lumber and milling business. He was there married March 11, 1866, and in March of the following year came to Illinois, and located at Iola, in Clay County. In 1872, he was elected to the office of Sheriff of Clay County, as a Republican, and served acceptably for the term of two years.

In 1875, he removed to Flora, and formed a partnership with Mr. M. H. Presley in local insurance business, and in 1876, became the traveling agent for the American Central Company, having the supervision of the States of Illinois. Indiana. Kentucky and Tennessee.

His wife, whose maiden name was Clara Lee, is a daughter of John and Parmelia Lee. She was born February 25, 1848, in Switzerland County, Ind. They are both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Flora, and he of the Masonic- fraternity. They have two children. Excerpt from "History of Wayne and Clay Counties, Illinois 1884 "

7980 Robert Harold "Bob" Boyles was born to the late Robert and Joyce Boyles on February 9, 1952. He has an older brother, James of (Bixby, Ok). Boyles graduated from Cisne High School in 1970, and then graduated Eastern Illinois University in 1974. Boyles also completed course work towards a master's degree at SIU-Carbondale. Bob married Carol Coatney on July 3, 1976. Survivors include his mother, Joyce Boyles; his wife, Carol Boyles; a daughter, Beth Ann (Keith) Colclasure; a son, Tyler (Marlissa) Boyles; four grandchildren, Kayley and Audrey Young, Marley Boyles, and Carly Colclasure; a brother, James (Rita) Boyles; a nephew, Greg Boyles and a niece, Jennifer Judd.
He joined Frontier Community College in 1981 and by 1986 he became the Director of Adult and Continuing Education. Boyles retired in 2007, after 26 years of service. Boyles returned as Dean of Instruction at Olney Central College in 2008, and then continued the same position at Frontier Community College until December 2013.
Boyles was a respected member of the community. Bob served on the Geff Grade School Board, Fairfield Area Development Commission, and Rotary Club. He took on the role of Santa during the Christmas season during the Rotary Christmas party for under privileged children, the Kiwanis Christmas parade, and FCC's Breakfast with Santa. Bob was a member of the Ellen Moore United Methodist Church.

Mr. Blessing is survived by his wife, Kay C. Blessing; one daughter, Deborah R. Green; two sons, Richard Kent and Brian John Blessing; mother, Zelda Blessing; and two grandchildren.

He was born April 30, 1925, in Clay County, the son of Ray and Lillie Daugherty Dawkins. He married Lois Holstlaw July 13, 1949 in Salem.

He was a retired Louisville Postal Clerk and a member of Red Brush Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Stephen; a daughter Diana Stortzum; a sister Betty Frye; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Ross, Loren, and James Dawkins; and a sister, Helen Tolliver.

Funeral services were held at Red Brush Christian Church with burial in Red Brush Cemetery.

Robert was born September 16, 1923 in Edwards Co., IL to parents, John Wesley and Matilda Madonna (Baker) Lomas.

He married E. Mae (Johnson) Lomas on August 15, 1945 in Olney, IL. She precedes him in death.

Robert was a WWII Navy veteran having served during the Battle of Okinawa in Japan. He worked for CIPS for 35 years and was a line clearance foreman.

7988 Robert L. McDowell, 73, of Bridgeport, formerly of Olney, died at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services with full military rites will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hanna Cemetery in rural Noble with Reverend Carroll Shouse officiating. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McDowell was born on April 8, 1927, in Noble, the son of Delbert and Stella (Daily) McDowell.

He was a retired iron worker. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and life member of DAV and VFW and a member of Eagles and American Legion.



Mr. McDowell is survived by two daughters, Cathryn Sue Allen, of Davenport, Florida, and Debra McCleave and her husband, George, of Olney; a son, Michael McDowell and his wife, Valarie, of Orlando, Florida; a sister, Virginia Kissen, of Bridgeport; five grandchildren, Todd and Ross Allen and Mikie, and Chris and Cody McDowell; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Frank, Darrell and Charles.

Robert was born May 30, 1935 in Richland County to Owen Lee & Mary Sharp Payne. He was married to Lois Marie Denton in 1978 and she preceded him in death. He then married Ruth Ann Hatcher in 1979. Mr. Payne was of the Baptist faith. He was also an auto body repairman.

Survivors include: wife, Ruth Ann; sons Rodney, Troy, Robin, Dale Hatcher, Mike Hatcher, Leon Hatcher; Lisa Payne, Loretta Payne, Joann Coble; brother, Leon Sharp; sister, Dorothy Jean McWilliams; 21 grandchildren & 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a brother and a sister.

Services were held at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home with interment in Hanna Cemetery at Noble.

Robert was born on February 4, 1936 in Clay County, Illinois to Roy Edward Sharp and Wilma Lena (Stratton) Sharp. He married Dorothy Ellen Duke on June 10, 1956 in Flora, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on December 17, 2020.

Robert loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed riding horses and playing music on his guitar.

Robert is survived by his son, Danny (Karen) Sharp of Manteno, IL; daughter, Judy (Don) Brinkman of Ashkum, IL; daughter, Diana Harper of Princeton, KY; daughter, Sherry Sharp of Fairfield, IL; grandchildren, Daniel, Mandy, Megan, Monica, Allison, Makayla, and Kenny Jr.; several great grandchildren; brothers, James Sharp, of San Tan Valley, AZ and Jackie Sharp, of Flora, IL; sisters, Thelma Fry, of Wooster, OH; Marcella (Arthur) Ellis, of Creve Coeur, IL; Phyllis (Gary) Vannote Muse, of Cisco, IL.; Carolyn (Steve) Snyder of Bloomington, IL; and Debra (Donald) Nix, of Salem IL; sister-in-law, Evelyn Sharp of Springfield, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow at Clay City Cemetery.

7991 Robert Lee "Bobby" Stine, 76, of Flora, IL died at 11:07 AM Monday, March 12, 2012 at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.

He was born February 23, 1936 in Wayne County, IL to Elmo "Jim" Stine and Beulah "Toots" (Wright) Stine. He married Sandra K. Kroeger on June 6, 1965 in Flora. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2010.

He worked at Flora International Shoe Factory and Clay County Highway Department and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Flora.

Bobby enjoyed playing country music on his guitar and attending the Elm River Chowder in Wayne County.

He is survived by a son: Galen Stine; 2 aunts: Florence "Dot" Dunlap and Linda Wright; 4 grandchildren: Robert, Nicholas, Galen, Cassie; and a host of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

A graveside service for Bobby Stine were held at Clay City Cemetery.

7992 Robert Lee (Bob) Runyon, 95, of Noble, Illinois passed away on Friday, April 17, 2020 at Helia Healthcare in Olney.

Robert was born on August 1, 1924 in Noble, Illinois, the son of Harold Henry and Della May (Stanley) Runyon. He married Leila Mae Hubble on December 26, 1947 in Clay City, Illinois. They celebrated their 72nd anniversary in December 2019.

Robert was a lifelong farmer and oil producer. He loved to spend time with his family and reminisce about the old days.

Robert is survived by his wife of 72 years, Leila Mae of Noble; daughter, Sherry (Rick) Reber of Tampa, FL; daughter, Kathy (Ken) Doty of Noble, IL; daughter, Dana L. Simmering of Boonville, IN; son, K. Craig (Stephanie) Runyon of Noble, IL; and Daughter-in-law, Norma Jean Fletcher of Olney, IL.

He was born April 7, 1938, in Flora, the son of Lee and Pearl (Franklin) Monical. He was united in marriage to Noma Lents on July 27, 1960, in Sailor Springs, and together they shared 50 wedding anniversaries until her death January 22, 2011.

Robert worked in the oil field. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, doing mechanical work, watching stock car racing and demolition derbies, and spending time with family.

He is survived by his 3 sons: Kevin Monical (Gwen Brown) of Flora, Dale (Becky) Monical of Flora, and Warren (Tammy) Monical of Waterloo, Alabama; 7 grandchildren: Crystal (Zeb) Lewis of Flora, Matthew Monical (Amanda Hostettler) of Flora, Dustin Monical of Harrisburg, Samantha Monical of Louisville, Kendra Monical of Elkmont, Alabama, Logan Monical of Clay City, and Kalin Monical of West Salem; 2 great-grandchildren: Tanner Roberts and MaKayla Monical; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born on February 15, 1926, a son of Arthur and Bernice Smith Beck. He married Norma Jean Watson on July 18, 1947. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William (Bud) Beck and Oliver Jack Beck and his son, Jack Beck.

He is survived by two children, Steve and David Beck of Champaign; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He served as a U.S. Navy Seabee during World war II.

Mr. Bissey was born January 10, 1929, the son of J. Milnor and Verda (Rogers) Bissey. He married Ruth Atchison. She survives.

He was retired from Roadmaster and was a member of United Methodist Church.

Mr. Bissey is survived by his wife, Ruth Bissey, of Arthur; daughters, Rhonda Cooper, of Flora, Zella Bissey, of Arthur, and Kathy Bissey, of Arthur; brothers, Kenneth Bissey and his wife, Ada, of Olney, Donald "Jake" Bissey and his wife, Marilyn, of Clay City, and William Bissey, of Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Trilla Kay and Robbie Ann; two sisters; and four brothers.
