They had 2 daughters Beverly S. and Judy F. Mckinney. Russell was the son of Mike Mckinney and Celestia McKinney of Sailor Springs. Russell was a brother to Ellorea, Grace, Katy, Jimmy and Norma. Russell worked for Pure Oil Company at the time of his death. Russell and Ruby lived in Bunnyville. He was bouncer when younger at the "Bloody Bucket" on week-ends between Clay City and Sailor Springs. 8156 | Russell V. Brewer, 54, a lifelong resident of Southeast Olney township, was found dead at the family residence yesterday evening. The Sheriff and Coroner's office investigated. Coroner Bob Schaub said that the death was apparently the result of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Born in Richland County, Mr. Brewer was the son of Lyman Brewer and Bessie F. Fiock Brewer. He was an active member of the Ebenezer community and a long time member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church. Mr. Brewer formerly operated a feed store on South Whittle Avenue. He was married to Thelma Mae Smith on May 1, 1937. She survives him. Also surviving are a son and two daughters: Carl Brewer of Olney, Miss Nancy Brewer of Deerfield Park, Fla., and Mrs. Sandra Lange of Gibson City. There are three grandchildren, Chuck, Cathy and Tina Jo Brewer. Other survivors are his father Lyman Brewer of Olney, and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Lois Kimmel, Mrs. Catherine Campbell and Paul Brewer, all of Olney. 8160 | Ruth Adelaide Hastings, 84, of rural Louisville, IL entered her heavenly home at 4:04 PM, Friday, April 30, 2010, at the age of 84 years 3 months and 26 days. She was born northeast of Flora, IL on January 4, 1926 to Walter F. and Katie (Howell) Cox. She married Robert L. Hastings on January 23, 1949. He survives along with their two sons: Jack and Warren Dale Hastings; two grandsons: Kevin L. and Travis W. Hastings; a brother: John S. Cox. Also surviving are six nieces, three nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of friends. Mrs. Hastings was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters (Ruby E. Cox, Martha K. Jennings, and Mary L. Dennis), and a brother (Charles W. Cox). Mrs. Hastings loved spending time with her family and helping others. Known for her cooking, and baking, especially her cinnamon rolls, she had recipes published in a national magazine, "Taste of Home". Also, she and her husband were known for their produce, which was shared with family, many neighbors, and friends. She was also a great seamstress and a crafter. Prior to her marriage she was book keeper in Fairfield and then managed the Hornsby's 5&10 Cent Store in Flora. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and attended faithfully, including the Sunday before she suffered a stroke on early Monday morning that called her home. She was member of the Homemaker's Extension Association for 60 years, and at the time of her death she was serving her unit, M.F. & I., as president. She was member of the Clay County Farm Bureau Women's Committee and the Unit 1 Garden Club. She also spent many hours with the American Red Cross blood drives as a volunteer and as a blood donor. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with Rev. Brad Henson and Rev. Mark Nowakawski officiating. She was born in Shoals on Aug. 1, 1932 to Lonzo and Gail (Ross) Montgomery. Ruth graduated from Shoals High School. She married Henry Hasler of Bloomfield on April 26, 1957. Ruth Retired from Crane N.A.D. in 1987. She was a member of the Mineral United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Mineral Ladies aid and N.A.R.F.E. Ruth loved to travel with friends and made many trips all over the country. One of the things Ruth was noted for was sending cards for for every occasion. She spent a lot of time visiting the sick and elderly shut ins. She is survived by her husband, Henry; son, William Hasler and wife Debbie of Bloomfield; daughter, Norma Turner and husband Jack of Mitchell; grandchildren, Brittany (Wyatt) LeGrand of Bloomfield; Derek and fiancé Jane Michael of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews. She married Harold M Burgener on May 29, 1966 in Caledonia, OH. Harold preceded her in death on December 26, 1988. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was very proud of her snowmen collection and enjoyed decorating her home for each season. Ruth was a very open and friendly person and never met a stranger. She returned to college later in life and earned a bachelors degree with honors from Western Illinois University. Ruth Helen (Zerkel) Clinton was born on June 2, 1930 in Clay County to Clarna G. and Agnes (Gross) Zerkel. She attended Pleasant Dale country school in Pixley Township, Clay County. She also attended Noble High School. After graduation in 1948, she worked at Clay County Farm Bureau in Louisville, IL until her marriage to James T. Clinton on March 30, 1951. She lived in Noble, IL until July 1982 when she and James moved to Olney. Ruth was a very talented seamstress and passed on her love of sewing to both of her daughters. She worked at Musgrove Apparel doing alterations for 7 years and did clothing alterations at home for 20 years. She also worked at Kex Products for 18 years. She was a long-time member of Freedom Baptist Church north of Noble, where she served as pianist for several years. Her children have many fond memories of sitting with her at the piano, singing church hymns and childrens songs. Ruth was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making big meals for her family. Her children and many others especially loved her homemade pies. Her husband James (Jim) Taylor Clinton preceded her in death on May 10, 2012. She is survived by son Richard (Karen) of Olney, daughter Janice of Olney, daughter Brenda (Steve) Francis of Olney, and son Paul D. (Sherry) of Wheeler, IL. Five grandchildren: Eric Francis, David (Dawn) Francis and Amy (Ben) Snowden, Abby (Dustin) Phillips, and Taylor Clinton. Two step-grandchildren: Tom (Angela) Courtney and Allen (Lena) Courtney Five great -grandchildren: Emmett and Auri Francis, Rhett and Beckett Phillips, and Murphy Snowden. Seven step-great-grandchildren: Hailey and Emalee Courtney, and Shyam, Brooklyn, and Madison Courtney. She is also survived by 2 nephews and 2 nieces. Besides her husband James, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Corporal Herbert Zerkel and brother, Melvin Zerkel. 8173 | Ruth Marie (Blank) Coan, 76 of Kalkaska, MI passed away on August 21, 2020 surrounded by her children and grandchildren due to injuries sustained in a house fire the morning of August 19, 2020. She was born to the late Theodore and Irene (Wagner) Blank on December 10, 1943 in Olney, IL. Ruth was one of eight children. Ruth and her late husband Phillip enjoyed hosting the National Trout Festival childrens trout pond at their home the last weekend in April. This year would have been the 14th year they would have hosted. Yellow roses were her favorite flower and she enjoyed canning with her daughters or playing Shanghai with the family. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Ruth is survived by her son, Vern (Lori) Coan, of Kalkaska; daughters, Robin (George) Gipson, of Merrillville, Indiana, and Lois (Jim) Nation, of Kalkaska; grandchildren, Chadwick Duran, Alicia Thayer, of Fife Lake; Gavin Coan, Levi Nation, Garrett Coan, Katherine Nation and Nicholas Coan, all of Kalkaska; great grandchildren, Eli Thayer, Lucas Thayer, Margaret Thayer-Duran of Fife Lake; siblings, Rosemary Wilkinson, Margaret Blank of New Harmony, IN; Theresa (John) Bowlby, Paul (Clara) Blank of Olney, IL; brother in law and sister in law, Lawrence and Janice Coan of Mancelona, MI, and several nieces and nephews. She was intensely committed to her work supporting children. She served students with multiple disabilities as an aide on buses and in classrooms, caring for each of them deeply. She shared her faith at Zion as a Sunday School teacher, a youth group leader, and the long-standing arts and crafts director for Vacation Bible School. She led by example as a woman of faith and integrity. When younger, she enjoyed playing the piano and singing as a member of the Lutherannies. Throughout her life, she delighted in crafting and sewing, sharing her love of reading with her children and grandchildren, listening to 1960s tunes and WBCL, writing poetry, playing Euchre with her family, completing word and sudoku puzzles, sharing old photos and passing on family stories, and playing with her grandchildren. She was born in Clay City, Illinois on March 7, 1927 to Jasper and Mary (Grey) . Ruth was a clerk for the Mark Twain Department of Forestry and drove a truck cross-country for 17 ½ years. She was an excellent crocheter, and avid reader and she also loved to knit. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, a grandson; Corey and a son-in-law Al Stuckey. Left to mourn her passing is her daughters; Mary Stuckey and Sandy Zumwalt and husband Brad, grandson Nick and wife Shannon, great granddaughter Madi, a brother; Robert Lynn Grey and wife Phyllis. Ryan was born May 1, 1978 in Olney, Illinois to Carl W. and Brenda L. (Kittle) Bandy. He was a member of the F.H.S Class of '96 and attended E.I.U. Ryan worked as an information systems analyst for Sylogistics, working in the BJC Health Center facilities. From an early age, Ryan was interested in computers and went on to make it a career. He had a special relationship with his nephew Rayce and was baptized in the Southern Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents: Carl and Brenda Bandy; sister: Kassi (Ben) Michels; maternal grandmother: Mary Kittle; paternal grandmother: Norma Dean; aunts and uncles: Connie (Gayle) Osborne, Patty (Charlie) Peters, Christine (Steve) Hosselton, Gary (Sherrie) Kittle , John (Janet) Bandy, and Christine Norman; along with many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather (Lawrence Kittle), paternal grandfathers (Guy Bandy and Wid Dean), and a cousin (Andrea Weiler). The funeral service for Ryan Bandy was held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment was in Floral Garden of Memories. 8199 | Sadie M. Esser October 30, 1921 ~ July 4, 2020 (age 98) Obituary Sadie M. Esser, NEE Crackel, 98 , of Washington, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on July 4, 2020. Sadie was born to the late Walter and Bertha Crackel on October 30, 1921 in Clay City, IL. She graduated from Clay City High School in 1939. She went on to enter the DePaul School of Nursing and graduated as an R.N. in 1942. Sadie worked at Salem Memorial Hospital then moved to Los Angeles, CA with a girlfriend where she worked and lived for a year. Upon returning home in 1945, she joined the Army Nurse Corp and was stationed at Mayo General Army Hospital in Galesburg, IL where she cared for wounded soldiers. After the war was over in 1946, she met her future husband Bo Esser who served in the Navy from 1943-1946. During the next year she worked as a private duty nurse in area hospitals. On June 26, 1947 Bo and Sadie were married at St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington. She worked at St. Francis Hospital until the birth of their first daughter. Her nursing career later included working 9 years at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and volunteering at St. Francis Hospital in Washington as an RN in the GI Lab. She enjoyed traveling with her husband extensively in the states and abroad. Over her lifetime she cultivated many treasured friendships. She was involved in the Carlyle Sailing club, a sewing club, and in more recent years a card club and senior line dancing. Sadie was a member of the American Legion, Washington Historical Society, and the ECC Patrons of the Arts. Mrs. Esser was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Bernard Bo Esser; son, Glen A. Esser; granddaughter, Stacey Copeland; sister, Rowena Miller and brother, Ray Crackel. 8200 | Sadie Marie Little, age 92, of Flora, Illinois, passed away early Monday morning, July 20, 2020, at Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. She was born October 27, 1927, in Sangamon County, the daughter of Clinton H. and Urcle (Herdes) Nash. She was united in marriage to Leonard Leak on June 27, 1950, in Flora. He preceded her in death September 15, 1954. She later married John H. Little on February 7, 2003, and together they shared 11 wedding anniversaries until his death January 30, 2015. Sadie was a caretaker for countless others over the years, and had operated a nursing home at one time. She is remembered for her lively and caring personality, and how she could usually find a positive aspect to offset a negative circumstance. She is survived by a son-in-law: Wayne Baker; a granddaughter: Angela (Ben) Baker-Saunders; and great-granddaughters: Annika Baker, Penelope and Flaunianna Samora, and Hazel Saunders; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and many friends at Flora Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a daughter: Marsha (Leak) Baker; two brothers: Clinton Nash Jr. and Everett E. Nash; and three sisters: Dorothy Baugh, Hazel Krutsinger, and Alberta Clark. A graveside ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora, with Brother Jeff Hough officiating. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
