Huffman, 86 died at 7:15 this morning at his home four and one-half miles south and one miles west of Liberty Center. His death was attributed to heart trouble. Mr. Huffman was born Nov 12, 1859 in Wells county to David and Elizabeth Barton Huffman. His marriage to Margaret Thomas took place in 1882. She preceded him in death, May 15, 1936. The decedent was a retired farmer and a member of the Odd Fellows lodge. Since the death of his wife he had resided with a grandson. He is survived by the following daughters and sons: Mrs. Blanche Smith, Sumner, Ill.; Mrs. Lucy Jacobs, Lawrenceville, Ill.; Mrs. Cora Sharrett, Bridgeport, Ill.; Mrs. Zella Hunt, Allendale, Ill.; Mrs. Rosa Osborn, Daleville; Mrs. Nellie Noe, Carl and Earl Huffman, of Poneto; Claude Huffman, Morenci, Mich., and Homer Huffman, near Bluffton. Also surviving are 29 grandchilldren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the H. Brown & Son funeral home at Warren and will be returned to the residence where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in charge of Rev. Lester Howell. Burial will be in the I. O. O. 926 | Bluford Hall was born in Washington County, Ind., May 16, 1838, died Feb. 9th, 1922. He married Susan A. Patton Sept. 2, 1858. To this union seven children were born. His wife and three of them having preceded him to the better world. He was a veteran of the Civil War, belonging to Co. A, 58th Regiment Ind. Vol. He was a kind and loving husband and father and liked by all who knew him. He was always a hard working, honest man and lived up to the Golden Rule "Do unto others as ye would that they should do unto you". The four surviving children are Laura Grimes, Lenora Barton, of Flora, and Minnie Lanahan, of St. Louis, Mo., Ben F. Hall, of Flora. He also leaves two brothers. Dr. Iva Hall, of Campbellsburg, Ind., and Jonah Hall, Flora, III. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. W. Zink, pastor of the Flora Christian Church, from the family home two and one half miles northwest of this city on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, at 2 o'clock. Interment at Elmwood cemetery. Holcomb, 79, of Chadwick, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at his home. He was a maintenance man with Batavia Schools for 5 years. He was born Aug. 8, 1931, in Patoka, Ind., the son of Clarence Edward and Viola Grace Holcomb. He married Ruth Staley on July 1, 1972, in Batavia. He was an Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He was a prisoner of war for 3 years. Survivors include his wife; his children, Jamie (Richard) Chapman of Tucson, Ariz., Bob(Kathy) Holcomb Jr. of Pell City, Ala., Pam Holcomb of Colorado, Joni Staley of Chadwick, Jerri Staley Reynolds of Lisle, Cindy Holcomb of Minneapolis, Janice Staley Calhoun of Milledgeville, James Robert (Becky) Staley of Elburn, and Jay Staley of Sycamore; sisters, Bonnie (Bob) Roe of Salem and Betty Thomas of Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Cremation rites have been accorded. Services have been held. Arrangements were completed McDonald Funeral Home, Milledgeville. 929 | Bob graduated high school in 1953, from Harter Township Schools. Bobs parents owned and operated the DeLuxe Café in Flora. During high school and for a short time after, Bob helped out at the Café until he was called to serve in the United States Army in 1955. After Bobs honorable discharge from the military, he attended Vincennes University where he received his Associates Degree. He then attended Eastern Illinois University for some time. On February 26, 1967, Bob married Marilyn Elaine Farmer in Flora, IL, and would go on to be married for 48 very happy years. After college, Bob started working for the State of Illinois, where he was responsible for the landscaping being planted along Route 50 and other state roadways. Bob eventually ended up taking a position with the city of Flora, where he worked for many years, in various departments, until his health no longer permitted in 1988. 934 | Bob was loved by everyone who knew him. He lived his life as a service to God through his selfless service to his community and his constant witness to all with whom he came in contact. Bob's heart went out to the youth of this community, and because of this, he is known to many as "Uncle Bob." His adult life was made up of different phases of service, beginning with his service to his country during the Vietnam War, where he served as a United States Army Ranger from 1966-1969. Afterward, he used his G.I. Bill to begin studying to be a nurse at Olney Central College. However, God had other plans for his life. Thus began his next phase of service as dispatcher (telecommunicator) for Olney Radio while he studied Criminal Justice at OCC and McKendree University. Upon completing his studies, he became a Police Officer, serving first at the Newton Police Department then coming to the Olney Police Department, where he served for 20 years from 1977-1997, retiring as Sergeant. The following year he began his first of two terms as Sheriff for Richland County, holding this office until 2006. Through all of this, and until the day he died, he served on many boards, including the Police and Fire boards, Salvation Army, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. He also did volunteer work for many charitable organizations such as The Master's Hands. Bob loved to change lives and believed in the good in everyone. He did everything he could to show his support to active duty and veterans of our military. He faithfully corresponded with any and all inmates who sought his encouragement and guidance. He was born December 5, 1949, in Flora, the son of Lloyd L. and Nola Jaunita (Martin) Slover. He was united in marriage to Sandra F. Burgess on July 12, 1968, in Wayne County, and together they have shared 56 wedding anniversaries. Bobbie had worked at Southwire in Flora, Rockwell in Centralia, and was an area farmer. He enjoyed going to tractor pulls, riding his four-wheeler, and spending time with his dog, Rowdy. He is survived by his wife: Sandra Slover of Xenia; 2 daughters: Tonia Slover of Flora and Heather Slover of Flora; 4 grandchildren: Nick (Chelsea) Burgess of Troy, Laci Burgess of Lebanon, Chase Kanitz of Flora, and Maci Kanitz of Flora; 4 great-grandchildren: Abram, Cohen, Kody, and Rylee Burgess; brother: Ronnie L. Slover of Centralia; 3 sisters-in-law: Linda (Bill) McKinney, Peggy (Charles) Skaj, and Marsha (Tom) Heiple; brother-in-law: Rick (Kelly) Burgess; and many nieces and nephews. She later married Clifford Stanley who precedes her in death. She worked as a floral designer for many local flower shops for many years. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Olney and she will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Bonita is survived by son, Richard Stanley, and his wife Mary of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Louise Stanley of Olney and Patty Miller and her husband Tim of Olney; two sisters, Lois Rosenlieb of Casper, Wyoming and Rae Dean Gill and husband Bobby Gene of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. 950 | Bonnie Bernice Powell, 89 of Pekin, formerly of South Pekin, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Timbercreek Rehab and Health Center in Pekin. Born June 29, 1928 in Pierson, IL to Jake and Mabel (Fortner) Bonham, she married Vernon Gene Powell on December 24, 1948 in Pekin. He died December 14, 1998 in Pekin. Also preceding her in death are her parents; one son Ronnie Powell on August 23, 1984 in Washington Park, IL; one grandson, Brian Powell; one granddaughter, Jill Powell; three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are two daughters, Alice (John) Skaggs of South Pekin and Linda Jobe of Marquette Heights; one son, Vernon G. Powell, Jr. of Granite City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A homemaker, Bonnie enjoyed walking and playing Bingo at the UAW Senior Citizen Center. Her graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Green Hill Cemetery in rural San Jose.
