She was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son. Services will be at the Cardascio Funeral Home with visitation. She was united in marriage in Wayne County Sept. 16, 1934, with Gaylord Gill, who survives. Mrs. Gill was supervisor for the International Shoe Factory in Flora. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Sailor Springs and attended Mt. Zion church. 967 | BORN IN GERMANY. Dr. Henry J. Weyl was born March 5, 1835, in Germany. He came to America with his father. In 1845, when he was ten years old and they settled at Albion, Ill., where he spent his boyhood. He attended college in Cincinnati and was a graduate of the Eclectic Medical college of that city. When the Civil war broke out he enlisted and served during the war as quartermaster of his regiment. He recently joined Dunham post, 141, G. A. R. He had been voted into membership, but had not been initiated. Dr. Weyl came to Decatur thirty-five years ago and soon built up a large practice. He had a wide reputation as a physician and surgeon. He engaged in active practice here for twenty years, retiring about fifteen years ago. BELIEVED IN DECATUR Dr. Weyl always was confident of the growth and prosperity of Decatur and he invested his money in Decatur real estate. At the time of his death he owned considerable property here, including a business house on South Park street, the home place at the corner of Jackson and William streets, the flat building which he built on North Jackson street and the flat building he later built on East William street, in which he died. He also owned residence properly on East Condit street and West Wood street, besides other properties. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Assigned to and fought aboard the battleship USS Tennessee BB-43, serving as a ship's storekeeper through 12 combat operations in the Pacific Theater of Operations. These included Tarawa, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Kavieng, Saipan, Guam, Tinian, Anguar, Leyte, Surigao Straits, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Returned with his ship to moor at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard on December 7, 1945. During his tour, Burnett witnessed 'The Big T' hurl the better part of the 9,347 14-inch rounds, 46,341 shells from her 5-inch guns, and more than 100,000 rounds from her anti-aircraft batteries at the enemy since the first Pearl Harbor Day, four years before. Honorably discharged on December 12, 1945 at the Naval Personnel Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. 987 | Boy Instantly Killed in Attempt to Move Wire November 1, 1922 page 1 Urbana Courier Homer, Ill., Nov. 1. - Virgil Wilson, employed on the farm of W. H. Taylor, west of here, was killed by electrocution at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, when he attempted to remove a wire that obstructed a path of a corn dump that he and Mr. Taylor were taking home from a sale. Mr. Taylor purchased the dump last Wednesday and yesterday he and Wilson went to take it home. At a point east of town a wire was hanging too low to clear the dump and Wilson attempted to raise it. The wire proved to be charged with electricity and he was killed instantly. Wilson was only 17 years old. He had been employed by Mr. Taylor during the past two years. The body was taken last night to the undertaking rooms of L. L. Hamill and was sent at 5 o'clock this morning to Clay City, Illinois, the home of the victim's people. Mr. Hamill accompanied the remains as far as Danville and Mr. Taylor went all the way. Mr. Beehn was born February 25, 1916, in West Salem, the son of Reed and Della (Keneipp) Beehn. He married Maude F. Marsh on October 10, 1936. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2007. He worked in the painting and decorating business since 1935 and was owner of Beehn's Decorating Service in Olney from 1958-1981. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He completed basic training at Camp Lee, Va., then was stationed at Camp Tacoma, Wash., where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of Olney American Legion and Eagles Lodge for many years. Mr. Beehn is survived by his daughter, Kae Blain, of Olney; daughter, Sherrill Simms and her husband, Steve, of Olney; son, Barry Beehn, of Charleston; son, Jeff Beehn and his wife, Tracy, of Towanda, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was united in marriage to Penny Smith on January 5, 2005, in Louisville, and together they have shared 17 wedding anniversaries. Brad had worked at Quad Graphics and HELLA Electronics in the past. He loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar, working on cars and bikes, and drawing. He was an outstanding father and husband. She later married Nicholas Keith DiSandro on July 5, 2003, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2019. Brenda worked for Clay County Health Department for 25 years, working in Home Health and volunteering in Hospice. She enjoyed staying active working in the garden, fishing, and caring for her flowers. She never sat still unless it was to kick your butt playing the card game Skip-Bo. She was a member of the Flora First Baptist Church. Brenda cared for a number of beloved pets over the years and enjoyed visiting and catching up with friends and family. 996 | Brenda S. Weidner, 56, of Clay City, IL died at 2:35 AM Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Flora Healthcare Center in Flora. She was born January 24, 1952 in Flora, IL to Norman & Melba Maxine (Bryan) Weidner. She was a former school bus driver for the Clay City School District, an EMT for Clay County Hospital, an Avon representative, and a member of the Clay City Baptist Church. She is survived by cousins: Joanne Rogers of Ft. Madison, IA, Diana Jacobs of Flora, Lana Norton of Clay City, Jeff Wilkins of Cisne, Larry Bryan of Bridgeport, Jamie Wilkin & family, and Jessi Witham; special friends: Victory Schnepper and Debbie Tibbs of Clay City. She was preceded in death by her parents, and cousins (Kanda Jacobs & Shari Norton Harlan. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Frank & Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 998 | Brent worked at A.O. Smith Corporation in Kankakee. Following that he became a city carrier for the Kankakee Post Office and was a member of the National Assoc. of Letter Carriers. He retired in 2013 with over 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was an avid NASCAR and stock car racing fan and went far and wide to watch them. 999 | Brian Kilgore, age 49 formally of Olney, passed away Sunday July 27, 2014 in Cloverdale, Indiana. He was born on December 18, 1964 to Louis and Shirley (Lashbrook) Kilgore. Brian was an enjoyable person to be around. He had the ability to raise your spirits when you were down. He enjoyed racing four wheelers and spending time with his friends and family. He is survived by daughters Ashley Ladd of Flora, IL, Nikki Kilgore of Bradenton, FL, Makalee Payne of Noble, IL, Father, Louis Kilgore of Ft. Montgomery, NY, Two Sisters and One Brother, One Aunt and One Uncle, and Several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his Mother.
