Mr. Runyon was born on April 17, 1927, in Richland County, the son of William Bryan and Mary Effie Thomas Runyon. He married Mary Jane Luthe and she survives.
He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Runyon is survived by his wife; a son, James Edgar Runyon, Jr.; a daughter, Linda Runyon; three brothers, Larry, Richard, and Don Runyon; two sisters, Pauline Ryals and Helen Harris; and two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
There were no services. Mr. Runyon donated his body to the ScienceCare Anatomical Program in Phoenix, AZ.
Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney was in charge.
