  • Notes
    • Mr. Heninger was a retired vice- president of Parish Bank and Trust Co. in Momence after working for them for 65 years.

''Harry was a very dependable person,'' said Parish Bank President John Parish who worked with Mr. Heninger since 1949. ''He knew a lot about people and the industry. I really missed him being around.''

Parish said that after Mr. Heninger retired, people used to come around the bank, asking for him and saying they missed him.

''He was kind of a fixture.''

Whereas Parish began his banking career in '49, Mr. Heninger started during the
Depression in 1929. Like most banks in the county, Parish closed in 1931 due to the Depression and reopened a year later.
''There are few people who remembered the Depression and banks failing,'' said Parish.

He said Mr. Heninger's incredible memory was a valuable asset to the bank. ''He could counsel and provide background that no one else could,'' said Parish.
''Plus he had an inclination to do community-oriented things.''

For 65 years, until his retirement in 1994, Mr. Heninger worked six days a week at the bank where he began as a bookkeeper in 1929 and rose to vice presidency in 1959.

An avid Cubs fan, Mr. Heninger started the Momence youth ''knee pants league'' baseball program in 1948 and for more than 25 years was the voice of all football games at Momence High School.

In 1955 he began a 33-year stint as the announcer for the annual Glad Fest parade. He also was active in the organization of the festival and was past president.

In 1988, the Momence Chamber of Commerce named Mr. Heninger its Man of the Year.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Momence where he held local, district, and conference offices.

Mr. Heninger also was a 50-year member of the Momence Masonic Lodge.
