  James was a retired farmer. He served in the US Army Air Force from 1941-1945. James was a crew chief on the C-47 and served in China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. As part of his job he traveled with his aircraft and had flown over the 'Hump". James enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, and working with wood. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
