- Mary Ellen Toliver Hasler, 92, of Taylorsville, KY, went home to be with her Lord on September 13, 2021.
Mary was born December 29, 1928, in Noble, IL, to Walter and Effie (Shirley) Badger.
Mary grew up on the family farm that raised soybeans, corn, wheat, and watermelons. She attended a one room schoolhouse until high school. Her graduation from Noble (Illinois) High School was in 1946, following which time she worked in Olney, IL.
Mary met and married William (Bill) Toliver on September 21, 1947 upon his return from the Army. She related that she had made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ when she was quite young but was convinced that the time of her salvation was actually when she was a newlywed in her early 20's after having a discussion about eternal matters with her husband Bill.
Bill entered the Gospel ministry in 1955 when he began preaching part time in churches. Mary and Bill were involved in pastoral ministry in Illinois and Kansas, where she taught many children's classes throughout the years. Later they were engaged in full-time ministry from 1959-1990 before retiring to Noble, IL, in 1990.
Her first husband, Bill, passed away in 1999.
In August of 2000 Mary was married to Albert Hasler, a life-long friend of Bill and Mary. Mary and Albert's marriage was cut short in 2001 by his death. The last 13 years Mary has lived in Louisville, KY, with her daughter Susan and her husband, Larry.
Some of the hobbies Mary enjoyed were reading, crocheting, quilting, and sending birthday cards to her large family and many friends.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents, Walter and Effie; 2 infant children, Robert and Jean; 2 husbands, Bill and Albert; siblings, Donald, Ruby and Charles; and her great granddaughter Naomi.
She is survived by children, Rich (Patti) Toliver, Susan (Larry) Duncan, Sally (Mark) Haeck, Ruth (Steve) Zimmerman, Lois (David) Martin, Doris (Steve) Barthelemy, John Toliver; stepchildren, Sheila (Bob) Story, Terry (Cheryl) Hasler; 35 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; sisters, Connie Helm, Doris Nease, and Shirley Schnell.
A Memorial Service for Mary Hasler will be held in Olney, IL, at Bible Fellowship Church on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation with family and friends will be held at the church immediately after the service.
