- Entered active service as a draftee on February 3, 1942 at Scott Field, Illinois. Selected for the Quartermaster Corps, completed basic training, and eventually qualified in the military occupational specialty of Warehouse Foreman (MOS 252). Departed the continental U.S. on October 5, 1942 bound for the Pacific Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 493rd Quartermaster Depot Company and participated in the Northern Solomons campaign. Honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on October 1, 1945 at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Battle Star, and the WWII Victory Medal.
