A veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War stationed in Hawaii, he was retired from International Mill Service, where he was a heavy equipment operator for 27 years.

An active member of the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group, American Legion Post No. 374 and the Chester VFW, he also was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Wellsville Lodge No. 180, Elks Lodge No. 258, the Moose Lodge and the Potters Club.
