Saw combat through Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns with Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 304th Infantry Regiment, 76th Infantry Division. Awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, The American Campaign Medal, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.   William R. "Boone" Hiser, 81, of Olney, IL, formerly of Clay City, died November 4, 2004 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Mr. Hiser was born July 16, 1923 in Clay County, the son of William and Lila Hunley Hiser. he married Lois Praxel September 14, 1945. He worked for the Ill. Dept. of Corrections and formerly the Clay County Sheriff's Dept., and was a World War II Army veteran, serving with the 3rd Infantry. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Welty and Karyl Eikleberry; one sister, Patsy Cordell; two grandchildren; and step-grandchildren and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother and a sister. Private family graveside services were held at the Clay City Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Olney Veterans Organizations. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
