Roscoe Paul Brown, 96
Pastor Paul Brown passed away Sunday, November 19th, 2023, While a patient at Herrin Community Hospital, Herrin, Illinois.
Paul Brown was born February 15th, 1927, to Elmer and Winne Brown, Ingraham, Illinois. He grew up in Clay City He had eleven siblings, of which ten have proceeded him in death. His younger brother Dean Brown (Shirley), Clay City survives.
In 1945 he dedicated his life to service in the Lords work and attended McKendree College, Lebanon, IL, where he finished attending college and completed Seminary and was ordained a minister of the Methodist Church, He also was a licensed schoolteacher.
While interning at a small country church outside Brownstown, IL (Sefton) he met and married Fern Lofland, Smith, who proceeded him in death. To this union were three children, Phillip (Betty) Brown, LaFontaine, IN. Carole Brown Zanton (Jay), Centralia IL, who proceeded him in death on May 20, 2019, and Matthew (Robin) Brown, Covington, OH. He had 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. While a pastor at Goreville, IL. He met and married his second wife, Dorothy James, West Frankfort, who proceeded him in death on May 9, 2019. Dorothy had three sons, Mike James, West Frankfort, IL., deceased, Dennis (Marianne) James, Carterville, IL., and Greg (Laura) James, also from Carterville, and son-in-law Jay Zanton.
During his life he pastored several Methodist Churches and charges throughout Southern Illinois, including Belmont, Mulberry Grove, Brownstown, Carrier Mills, Noble, Goreville, Antioch (West Frankfort), Vergennes, Galatia, Raleigh, and Broughton
He was a dedicated believer in inter-faith community relationships. He helped create ministerial alliances in several communities. In 1969, while at Noble, Paul along with Bob Phillips and Joe Eggebrecht founded the annual Noble Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner which continues today. Paul has officiated at funerals and weddings, which are too numerous to count. He had a passion to visit the sick and infirm. He will be greatly missed.
Services and interment are being provided by Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Illinois. Visitation is 5 8 PM Friday, December 01, 2023, at Trinity Methodist church, 304 N Sunny Slope St., West Frankfort, Illinois 62896. The Funeral services will also be at Trinity Methodist church, on Saturday December 02. 2023 at 11 AM. Officiating this service will be Scott Johnson and Danny Motta. Interment is immediately following at Denning Cemetery, West Frankfort.
