- Barbara Frances Hasler, daughter of William and Lieuetta McCain Hasler, was born near Park on March 10, 1924, and departed this life on December 26, 1951 at the age of 27 years, nine months, and 16 days.
She became unconscious at 10:45 a.m. Christmas morning soon after she had arrived at the home of her Aunt Leola and Uncle Lester where the family had gathered for their annual Christmas dinner. All was done for her that the loving hands of her family and friends, her doctor and nurse could do; but she never regained consciousness. God sent an angel at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday to take a beautiful bud out of our garden of love.
Barbara spent most of her life near Park. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1942. She was cashier at Kroger's store in Bloomfield for 3 years, and there a great many friends learned to know and love her. She was kind and courteous to everyone and careful in the performance of her duties.
She was a regular attendant at the Walnut Grove Sunday School until seven years ago when she suddenly became ill. She never fully recovered from this illness. Among her most treasured keepsakes are a little gold ring and a Bible received from the Sunday School for regular attendance. She took an active part in the young people's activities.
After she became ill, most of her time was spent in her home. We do not know where and when she learned to know her Savior. Neither do we know where Mary and Martha, the sisters of Lazarus of the little town of Bethany, learned to know Him, but according to St. Luke 10:13 "Martha received Him into her house." Likewise, Barbara's life was her testimony. She loved her home and made it a center of Christian activity and a school of Christian living. Her time was spent serving the ones she loved. She spent tireless hours entertaining the little ones of the family and faithfully ministering to all the needs of the older ones. She reflected God's love to those who were around her. Jesus said, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples if ye have love one to another." John 13:35.
Barbara is survived in addition to the parents by three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Gholson of North Vernon, Indiana, Mrs. Betty Jo Frye of Bloomfield, R.R.3, and Mrs. Phyllis Mae Miller, also of Bloomfield route, two brothers, Lee of Bloomfield and Henry Howard at home, four nieces, Martha Jean, Linda Lee, Judy Kay Gholson and Sharon Elaine Miller; four nephews, Ronald and Gary Gholson and David and Daniel Frye, three aunts, Mrs. Lester Hasler, Mrs. Emma Ledgerwood, and Mrs. May Barker; one uncle Henry Hasler. Also she leaves to mourn their loss several other relatives and a host of friends.
She will sleep, but not forever, In the lone and silent grave; Blessed be the Lord that taketh, Blessed be the Lord that gave. She will sleep, but not forever, There will be a glorious dawn! We shall meet to part, no, never, On the resurrection morn. In the bright eternal city, Death can never, never come; In His own good time He'll call us, From the grave to "home sweet home.".
