- Beulah Marie (Thomas) Smith, age 94, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flora.
Mrs. Smith was born May 18, 1921 in Clay County, the daughter of Delbert and Leona Belle (Neece) Thomas. She married John H. Smith on August 24, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1997.
She began working at Sparton Manufacturing Company in Flora in 1960 and later retired from there in 1982. She was a 70 year member of Clay City United Methodist Church, joining on May 6, 1945. She was also a 60 year member of Eastern Star. Her hobbies and favorite past times included birds, flowers, reading, writing poetry, singing, and gardening.
She is survived by one brother: Merle Douglas Thomas (Norma Jean). Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Phillip D. Henderson (Charlene); Dorothy Henderson; Bonnie Christy (Floyd); Barbara Kirby (Ray); Doris Murphy; Marilyn Prince (Tom); Don Thomas (Rena); Linda Tolliver (Bill); Norma Gordon (John); Carroll Dean Farmer (Karen); Ann Stoecklin (Don); Jane Reynolds; Janet Taylor (Larry); Michael A. Thomas (Lynne); Gary W. Thomas (Ginger); Rodney D. Thomas (Kim); Sandra Sebastian (Barry); along with several great nieces and great nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, two brothers: Emory and Carl Thomas, and three sisters: Violet Gill, Lucille Farmer, and Thelma Ruth Henderson.
A funeral service for Beulah Smith will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2015, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with burial following in Clay City Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to the Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center Activity Fund.
