- Charles E. Bub Mick Jr. 40, Oblong, IL passed away on Monday November 26, 2018.
Born in Bath, Maine on July 8, 1978 he was the son of Charles Mick Sr. and Joy U. (Taylor) Mick.
On November 16, 2002 he married Christine R. Davis and later married his present wife Cathy L. Pate on November 5, 2011.
Charles was a CNA most recently at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL and also worked at Burgin Manor and Richland Care and Rehabilitation, both in Olney, IL. He was a member of the Carmi, IL High School Class of 1996. In his youth he raised and showed hogs. Charles was involved with 4-H and FFA when he was in school. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country.
Charles was a member of the IHSA and officiated football, basketball, softball and baseball games for many years. He also belonged to IKSA (Independent Karate Schools of America) and had attained his 5th Degree Black Belt. He taught karate and formed a Karate Club in Oblong, IL. Charles was in the process of creating a new karate studio in Oblong. Charles enjoyed youth football, serving as Commissioner and Coach for the Oblong Junior Football League Program (JFL) from 2016 to the present time, and also held a seat as a board member of the Wabash Valley Youth Football League. During his time with the Oblong JFL, the 7th-8th grade teams won 3 championships back to back, and went undefeated in 2018 with the help of then head Coach Thom Dennis. Charles also guided the 4-5-6 grade team to a championship in 2018. Charles loved being with and coaching the boys in the Oblong JFL. Charles was a member of the Robinson, Illinois branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Mick; her two sons, James and Johnathan McPherson; two daughters by his first wife, Christine Mick, Breena and Chelsey Mick; as well as two daughters by his present wife, Cathy Mick, Kaylee and Jessica Mick; a brother, Tom Craven, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sonya and Jamie Mayberry and Alicia and Mike Smith; his father and step-mother, Charles Mick, Sr., and Flo Mick. Also surviving is a son, Dakota Kingdon, who was recently reunited with Charles, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Charles in death were his mother, Joy Mick; maternal and paternal grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Charles life will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 30, 2018, at the Robinson, IL branch of The Church Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Robinson, IL, with Mario Aguire officiating.
Interment will be at a later date. He will be buried next to his mother in Kuykendall Cemetery, in Carmi, IL.
