- Dean Corry, 75, of Flora, IL died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:15 AM at his home in Flora.
He was born February 8, 1935 in Flora, one of twin boys born to John and Erma (Mann) Corry. Erma passed away 3 days after giving birth.
Dean graduated from high school in 1953. He worked in construction before joining the Aviation Branch of the U.S. Navy on March 6, 1956. Dean was assigned to Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA, Air Group 14, and attack squadron station 144 on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger CVA 61. It was during this time that he married his high school sweetheart, Deloris Kay Edwards, on June 8, 1957, in Flora. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2008.
Dean retired in February 2000, after serving 26 years with the Flora Police Department as a police dispatcher. Dean was a faithful member of First Christian Church in Flora and a member of the Beau Knot Sunday School Class. He taught Sunday School for 38 years, served as a decon for 12 years, an elder for 26 years, and was involved in the greeter ministry, baptismal ministry and communion ministry.
He is survived by 2 sons: Douglas Corry & wife Christie of Flora, John Corry & wife Marla of Carlyle;1 daughter: Kysa Epstein & husband David of Elgin; 1 brother: Gene Corry & wife Thelma of Flora; 9 grandchildren: Joslin, James, Alisha & Will Corry / Evan, Allyson & Trevor Corry / Lincoln & Luke Epstein; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 1 brother (Charles "Skip" Corry).
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, February 15, 2010 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Kevin Able officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, with military honors. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Sunday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Clay County Hospice or American Heart Association
