  He attended school in Olney, graduating from East Richland High School in 1961. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. After leaving the Air Force, he worked for a short time in Olney before moving to the Southwest where he made his career in small businesses and new home sales in Arizona, Nevada and California.
