Departed the Continental U.S. on August 20, 1944 bound for Central Europe before entering combat on August 26, 1944. The 9th Armored Division was the first allied force to cross the Rhine in Germany. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with four bronze stars and the Bronze Star Medal.
