- William L. "Pete" Slankard, 94, of Noble, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital.
Pete was born on April 9, 1927 in Harrisburg, Illinois, the son of Roy Slankard and Eva (Dorsey). He married to Neva Elizabeth Wyatt on May 5, 1945, and she preceded him in death on December 18, 2001.
Pete was a US Navy WW II Navy Veteran and served aboard the USS Yorktown. He enjoyed rebuilding old cars, trucks, tractors, and riding motorcycles. Pete worked in the oil field, coal mines, and did construction.
Pete is survived by his son, Garry Slankard and wife Theresa, son, Jerry Slankard and wife Judy, son, Jim Slankard and wife Tammy, son, Billy Dean Slankard and wife Cheryl, special friend, Joan Weiss grandchildren, Mark (Cigdem) Slankard, Melanie Mehay, Tina (Ted) Lawver, Terrie (Will) Calhoun, Mindy (David) Hoopingarner, Tracey (Ken) McCracken, Ted (Tina) Slankard, Kyle (Trisha) Slankard, Diedre Slankard, Adam Slankard, Jacob Slankard, Tiffany (David) Cowger, Gwen (Jerome) Scheibel, Bill (Stephanie) Slankard; and numerous great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Neva Elizabeth Slankard; brothers, Chuck, Leroy, Bill, and Ralph Slankard, and sisters, Lena and Joyce.
A funeral service for Pete will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning one-hour prior. Full Military Rites will be performed at the funeral home.
Interment will occur at a later date at Zif Cemetery.
