- Matthew Scott Hartrich, 43, of Newton, IL passed away at 6:12 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Funeral mass celebrating Scott's life will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, IL with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass.
Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, IL. Visitation will be held 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the church.
In loving memory of Scott, memorials may be made to the Megan and John Hartrich Education Fund. Arrangements are under the care of the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL.
Scott was born on March 12, 1970 in Olney, IL the son of Michael D. and Teresa E. (Zuber) Hartrich.
He married Joyce Marie Volk on October 12, 2002 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, IL.
Scott graduated from Newton Community High School in 1988. He went on to attend Eastern Illinois University earning a Bachelor's degree. Scott was a correctional officer at the Lawrence Correctional Center. Scott was a member of the Olney Knights of Columbus and was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. Scott enjoyed baseball, softball, basketball, bowling and playing poker. The greatest joy of his life was his family, wife Joyce and his children Megan and John.
Scott is survived by his wife of 10 years, Joyce Marie Hartrich of Newton; children, Megan Ella Hartrich & John Matthew Hartrich both of Newton; parents, Mike and Teresa Hartrich of Newton; sister, Michele (Dusty) Wright of Newton; grandmothers, Lucie Hartrich of Ste. Marie, IL and Estella Zuber of Olney; father and mother-in-law, Gib & Pat Volk of Ingraham.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandfathers Harold Hartrich and Herman Zuber and brother-in-laws Chuck Volk and John Volk.
