On Veterans' Day, 2005, the city of Flora, Illinois dedicated a memorial to all known Clay County, Illinois World War II Veterans.
Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

Notes - Harold F. Buerster, 88, of Newton and formerly of rural Ingraham, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at his home.
Harold was born on January 26, 1924, in rural Noble, the son of Carl and Cecelia (Kuenstler) Buerster.
He married Rose Marie Radke on May 10, 1949, at St. Mary the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie. She survives.
He was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton and former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin. Harold served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Ste. Marie Post #932 American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Jasper County Farm Bureau. After retiring from farming, Harold enjoyed woodworking and spending his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose Marie Buerster, of Newton; five children, David (Joan) Buerster, of Newton, Robert (Mildred) Buerster, of Olney, Reverend James Buerster, of Germantown, Mary Pat (Leo) Ginder, of Clare, Mich., and Susan Sandschafer, of Effingham; grandchildren, Kimberly (Keith) Wilson, Katie (Adam) Kuhl, Jennifer (Carson) Lomax, Lisa (Phil) Ozier, Karen Buerster (special friend, Micky), Amy (Corey) Coleman, Brian (Anni') Ginder, Valarie (Kevin) Huber, Mark (Catherine) Sandschafer, Erica (Eric) Quint, Bridget (Mark) Milleville, Steve Sandschafer and Jill Sandschafer; great-grandchildren, Brock Wilson, Briley Wilson, Addison Kuhl, Roxie Kuhl, Tyler Lomax, Preston Ozier, Lindsey Ozier, Charles Ouda, Victor Ouda, Jacy Ginder, Tanner Sandschafer, Abigail Quint, Samson Milleville and Connor Gordon; and sisters, Florine Weidner, of Noble, Virginia Steber, of Olney, and Mildred Hinterscher, of Oblong.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Carl and Cecelia Buerster; son-in-law, Leonard Sandschafer; granddaughter, Brenda Sue Buerster; great granddaughter, Julia Quint; brothers, Henry and Delbert Buerster; and sisters, Marie (Cletus) Zwilling and Emma (Royal) Weidner.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery with a flag presentation. Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements.
