- Clair R. Land, 68, of Xenia, IL died at 8:26 AM Wednesday, August 27, 2008 on his farm in Xenia. He was working on his tractor when it turned over on him.
He was born July 17, 1940 in Olney, IL to Herschel & Vera (Daniels) Land. He married Elaine Weaver on June 10, 1961 in Xenia. She preceded him in death on March 6, 1998. He later married Dallas Franklin Hemphill on December 17, 1999 in Clay City, IL.
He was an area farmer and his memberships included Xenia United Methodist Church, Flora Elks Lodge, Flora Country Club, member & past board member of Clay County Farm Bureau, and past Unit #35 school board member.
Clair enjoyed farming, golfing, playing pool, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Dallas Land of Xenia; children: Bryan Land & wife Gayla of Flora, Kent Land & wife Jamie of Flora, Diane Hemphill of Flora, Linda Waller & wife Bill of Louisville, Stacey Earlywine & husband Jim of Flora; brother: Don Land & wife Judy of Clay City; 7 grandchildren: Ashley Bissey & husband Jason of Flora, Maleah & Mitch Land of Flora, Travis Knapp of Flora, Mac & Connor Earlywine of Flora, Alexis Waller of Louisville; 2 great-grandchildren: Mylee & Alexis Bissey of Flora. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and 2 brothers (Dwight & Ken Land).
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Xenia. Visitation will be from 6-9 PM Saturday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Xenia Fire Department or Flora/Clay County Rescue Squad and may be received at the funeral home.
