Notes |
- NOTES FROM STEPHEN GREGORY "STEVE" LUKE (1947-2002):
John Dempsey emmigrated with his wife Sarah and children, including a daughter Sarah aged two, in 1787 to Virginia [now part of the fledgling United States]. He already had cousins there, who had emmigrated before the American War of Independence 1775-1783. They helped set him up in Spottsylvania County with a farm and eight slaves. However, he died of disease in 1791, leaving young Sarah fatherless.
