    • NOTES FROM STEPHEN GREGORY "STEVE" LUKE (1947-2002):
      When Johnn was 23 Baden began 7 yrs of vicious war. It is possible that he went to America to escape military service. Once on the frontier in N.C. he changed his name to John Nicholas Gibbs. Most likely he was a regulator and probably saw service in the patriot militia during the War of Independence.(see Henry H Sharp). For his military service he was awarded land in Tenn
