On Veterans' Day, 2005, the city of Flora, Illinois dedicated a memorial to all known Clay County, Illinois World War II Veterans.
Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

Notes - Fred Strange, 75, of Flora, IL, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 1996 at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, in Flora, with Rev. Brad Henson officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Flora, with full military rites. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Clay County Visiting Nurses.
Strange was born July 1, 1920 in Flora, the son of Henry Silas and Mary Elsie (Weir) Strange. He married Juanita E. Crites June 24, 1950 in Olney, IL. She preceded him in death Aug. 22, 1995.
He was a member of Bloom Baptist Church in Flora. He was a WWII Veteran and a member of Flora American Legion Post.
He is survived by one son, Darrell Strange and his wife Sheila, of Clay City, IL; two daughters, Priscilla Gharst, of Springfield, IL, and Anita Allen and her husband, Rocky, of Flora, IL; two brothers, Henry Strange, of Flora, IL and Delbert Strange, of Fairfield, IL; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.
