Selected for the Medical Department, completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Medical Technician 409. Departed the Continenntal U.S. on March 28, 1944 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 1,000 bed 186th General Hospital based at Fairford, England. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Technician 5th Grade on March 26, 1946 at the Separation Center, Fort Grant.   MOTES from his daughter Lorena: Eldon Gill. He was born in 1923 and passed away in 1977. He was only 18 when he went into the service and had never been away from home before. Back several years ago some of the men and women he served with had a couple of reunions in Evansville and my brother and I attended. Dad was a medical tech - one of the men who went to the reunion was a well-renowned doctor out East. Sadly, most of them that attended have passed away now. One of Dad's friends from the Army gave me his gold cross necklace that he had worn while he was in the service which is very special. I am grateful to all the Veterans and for all the history you provide and for your service.
