- Received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters and The Distinguished Flying Cross. Was flying a B-29 when it crashed in the Pacific at a 150 mph on March 4, 1945. He was serving with the 73rd Bomb Wing of the Army Air Force. They were returning from an 18 hour round trip mission to Tokyo. Had bombed Nakijima Arms Plant and were on the way home to Saipan. Two crewmen dead all the rest injured. Helped free trapped crew mates.
