- Merl I. Leach, 90, of Clay City, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at Clay County Hospital in Flora.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Clay City Christian Church in Clay City with ministers Carson Root and Neal Kenley officiating. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery in Sailor Springs.
Mr. Leach was born on November 30, 1914, in Clay County, the son of Loren and Lena (Fry) Leach. He married Beldora McHenry Leach. She preceded him in death. He married Maxine Leach. She survives.
He was a lifelong Clay County resident and was employed by the Union Oil Company. He was an active member of the Christian churches in Flora and Clay City. Mr. Leach served as elder and Bible school teacher for many years. He was instrumental in organizing the Christian Church Men's Fellowship (Kingdom Builders) and also helped in the establishment of Oil Belt Christian Service Camp in Flora. He was a lay preacher, serving several Christian churches in the area.
Mr. Leach is survived by his wife, Maxine Leach, of Clay City; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Rinnert, of Charleston, S.C., and Pamela Nosbisch and her husband, Timothy, of Darien; three nieces, Betty Bailey, of Wise, Va., Marilyn Farrell, of Austin, Texas, and Joyce Bloom and her husband, Will, of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Katherine Nosbisch, of Darien, Laura Nosbisch, of Darien, Roger Smith, of
Kansas, and Donna Luna and her husband, Ernie, of Hillsboro, Kan.; four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, sister, Estel Cox, and stepdaughter, Madeline Smith.
