    • Services for Gilbert J. Eckel, 73, of Route 3 Olney, were held Friday, September 19 at the Summers Funeral Home in Olney with Brother Lyle Berry presiding. Burial was in the Crest Haven Cemetery with full military graveside rites by the Olney veterans organizations.

      Mr. Eckel died at 7:07 p.m., Tuesday, September 16 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes Indiana.

      He was born April 9, 1913, in Beatrice, Nebraska, the son of John and Millie (Schoneberg) Eckel. He married Florence Wachtel on March 10, 1942, and she survives.

      In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Gary Eckel, Larry Eckel, Earl Eckel and James Eckel, all of Olney: a daughter, Wanda Ellenberger of Springfield: two brothers, Leonard Eckel of Olney and Elmer Eckel of Parkersburg: two sisters, Helen Shryock of Olney and Verna Connerly of Rosebush, Michigan; and a grandchild, Cera Eckel of Princeton, Indiana.

      He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eldon Eckel. He was a veteran of World War II and worked as a bus driver for the East Richland School District.
