- Charles Roy Thomas, age 87, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away early Saturday morning, March 13, 2021, at Flora Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
He was born August 31, 1933, in Flora, Illinois, the son of Stanford Charles and Ethel B. (Cross) Thomas. He was united in marriage to Norma June Hunt on June 12, 1954, and together they have shared 66 wedding anniversaries.
Charles worked for the Clay City Banking Company for 19 years. He worked construction in the past and had founded and ran his own Oil Production Company for many years. He was a member of the Clay City Christian Church for 65 years where he served as a Sunday School teacher and had been involved in the construction of the church building. Charles had served on the Clay City Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars, fixing computers, and helping others with computers. He also enjoyed his winters spent in Florida with his family.
He is survived by his wife: Norma June Thomas of Clay City; a son: Phillip W. Thomas of Estero, FL; a daughter: Cheryl J. (Gary) Piontkowski of Ft. Myers, FL; 3 grandsons: Skyler T. Peterson and Dexter S. Peterson of Ft. Myers, FL, and Dustin R. (Renee) Peterson of Avoca, NY; 2 great-granddaughters: Madelyn and Arabella Peterson of Avoca, NY; 2 brothers: Robert Red Thomas of Cisne, and Karl (Margaret) Thomas of Decatur; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Steven C. Thomas; and 2 brothers: Carroll and John Thomas.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Clay City Cemetery with Brian Foster and Nate Whisler officiating.
