- Laura Pheobe, daughter of William and Caroline Carman, was born in Fayette county, Ill., near Vandalia, Jan. 22, 1867, and departed this life Dec. 27, 1923, age 66 years, 11 months and 6 days.
She was united in marriage to Abram Stanford Dec 25, 1888, and to this union was born one daughter and one son. This union was broken by the death of Mr. Stanford March 3,1902. Later she was united in marriage to Alvin Stanford on the 7th day of December, 1902.

She had been a teacher In the common schools of Clay county for about four years. Her recent sickness dates back several months, all of which she bore with much patience and christian fortitude. Four weeks ago, in the hope for her-recovery, she was removed to the sanitarium at Olney, where with all that medical skill and loving hands could do, could not nurse her back to health again. .......................
She leaves to mourn her departure, a husband, one daughter, Mrs. Earl Davis of Rinard; one son, Roy, at home; one step daughter, Miss Cora Stanford of Flora; five grandchildren, one sister, Miss Anna Carman of Flora, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a faithful wife, loving mother and good neighbor.
