  Memorial services will be held at Dillman Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. today (August 11, 2010) Laren K. "Larry" Coggan Laren K. "Larry" Coggan passed away at his home in Tyler on Aug. 5, 2010, surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. A graveside service will follow later this week in Dillman Cemetery in Sailor Springs, Ill. Mr. Coggan was preceded in death by his parents, Sailor and Ruth Coggan of Sailor Springs; and by a sister, Marilyn Tolliver of Jacksonville, Fla. Survivors include his sister, Carolyn Keck and her husband Jim of Swansea, Ill; ex-wife, Mona Hale of Tyler; daughter, Kerry Jones and her husband Mike of Tyler; son, Kevin Coggan and his wife Jennifer of Bellingham, Wash.; son, Kent Coggan and his wife Tracy of Midland, as well as grandchildren, Shannon Jones of Tyler, Keith Coggan and April Coggan Brown of Anchorage, Alaska, and Laramie, Kyle, Christian and Tuesdee Coggan of Midland; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Jade Coggan of Bellingham; and 11 nieces and nephews. Laren Kent Coggan was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Sailor Springs, Ill. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. On Feb. 3, 1951, he married Mona Jean Awalt and they raised three children, Kerry, Kevin and Kent. He began employment with Pure Oil Co. in Olney, Ill, and later lived in Dollarhide and Ozona, Fort Morgan, Colo., Moab, Utah, Casper, Wyo., and Midland. He retired in 1981 after 30 years of employment with the company that was then Unocal. He moved to Tyler in 1999 to be near family. Laren was a devoted husband and father. He coached Little League baseball and was an excellent player himself, once having earned a spot on a minor league team. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf and watching the horses race at Ruidoso Downs. He instilled his love of nature and the outdoors in his children, taking them on many family vacations to national parks and monuments in the Rocky Mountains and elsewhere. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
