- Of Festus, Missouri formerly of Potosi was born on Saturday, October 1, 1932 in Marion, Kentucky. A daughter of the late, Virginia Mae (Walker) Yandell and the late, Ervin Lee Yandell. Mary departed this life on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at her residence in Festus, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-three years, four months and six days.
Mary was united in marriage to Clarence Roderick on August 23, 1969 in St. Louis, Missouri. Clarence preceded Mary in death February 5, 1995. Mary and Clarence had retired to Potosi in 1973. During her years in the Potosi area, Mary worked for McCaul and Associates and was Deputy Tax Assessor for Washington County.
She is survived by one son, William Bill Ervin and wife, Frances Hampton of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; five daughters, Jenny and husband, Mark Spees of Columbia, Illinois; Vickie Lee and husband, Jerry Goodrich of Hickory, Kentucky; Joyce Annette Penberthy of Festus, Missouri; June and husband, Randy Vaughn of Phenix City, Alabama; Ann Myshelle and husband, Tony Moll of Festus, Missouri; one sister, Patricia June Harris of Maeystown, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew; numerous cousins and extended family members; sister-in-law, Katy Yandell of Steele, Missouri; step-children, Barbara and husband, Mike Harlow of Kokomo Indiana; Phillip Roderick of Rolla, Missouri; Sharon Hoock of East Carondelet Illinois; Larry and wife, Pam Roderick of Sullivan, Missouri; Jan Portillo of St. Louis, Missouri. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Roderick her brother, Thomas A. Yandell, brother-in-law Daniel E. Harris; granddaughter Anita Ann Vaughn, grandson Jeffery Lewis Dunn, great-grandson Jackson Weller Goodrich, nephew Thomas Lee Yandell and stepson Dennis Wayne Roderick.
Mary grew up in Vanduser, Missouri and loved to talk about her hometown and school years there. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed going out to eat at Cracker Barrel, going on shopping trips and reading. She adored her puppies, Bess, Sissy and Tink. Mary was a very caring, loving woman who will be greatly missed by all. Mary had a special place in her heart for her animal companions and supported animal adoption agencies.
