Notes - GAHANNA, Ohio Capt. Virgil I. Heap, USMC, retired, age 77, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Mount Carmel East Hospital.
Born in Dewey, he joined the Marine Corps in 1951. After 20 years of decorated service, he retired from the Marines in 1971 and went on to a career as a financial adviser.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Elza and Marie (Ark) Heap and two brothers, Vernon and Elmer, all of Dewey. He is survived by daughters LaVinnia Sullivan of Rantoul, Rebecca Heap of Kentucky, Katrina (Wally) Heap-Himelstein of Columbus, Ohio, and Tanya (Ronald) Wallace of Pickerington, Ohio; brothers Leland (June) Heap and Lowell (Melvina) Heap of Dewey; a sister, Delilah (Harold) Carlos of Eagle River, Alaska; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Green Lawn Ave., Columbus, Ohio. For anyone wishing to attend, we will be meeting at the main building a few minutes prior to service time. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
