- Entered active service as a draftee on September 29, 1942. Completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Cannoneer. In poor health, assigned to the Casual Section, Station Complement, Camp Gordon Johnston, Florida. Honorably discharged with Certificate of Disability as a Private on July 14, 1943. Earned the WWII Victory Medal for his brief service.
