    Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

    • Shirley "Jiggs" Alderson, 81, of Potomac Park, Cumberland, Md. died Aug. 21, 2005 at Sacred Heart Hospital.

      Mr. Alderson was born Jan. 12, 1924 in Flora, IL, the son of Norman and Frances Lane Alderson. He married Margaret Fanning.

      He was employed with the B. & O. Railroad in Flora in 1941, and later retired from CSX, Cumberland, Md, in 1984, where he was an assistant superintendent of production.

      He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Cumberland Elks, and Cresaptown Knights of Columbus.

      Survivors include his wife; three daughters Shirley Marie Eden, Chris Auerbach, Gina Dopler; three sons, Patrick L., Rob, and N. Michael Alderson; two sisters, Wanda Staley and Wilma Williams; 22 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

      Mass of Christian burial was held at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery with military honors.
