    • Entered active service as a draftee on March 14, 1945 at Chicago, Illinois. Completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of basic soldier (521). Served briefly stateside with Company B, 126th Battalion, 80th Infantry Regiment, before being admitted to the Regional Hospital, Camp Joseph T. Robinson, Arkansas, for medical treatment and evaluation. Honorably discharged with a Certificate of Disability as a Private on August 21, 1945 at same station. Earned the WWII Victory Medal for his service during the period of eligibility.
