  Violet Laura Allphin Wells, 83, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in her home. Graveside service in Graceland Cemetery. Violet was born in Clay County on April 17, 1928, daughter of Reuben and Esta Crain Allphin. She and her sister Vera sang together as children and young women, and Violet was a self-taught artist and musician who created oil paintings and quilts and played the guitar and keyboard by ear. She worked at various jobs from a young age, and was a stay-at-home mom to her son and daughter. She was a Cub Scout leader for her son and Girl Scout leader for her daughter, served as room mother and volunteered at her children’s schools. She married William L. Wells on Nov. 9, 1946 in Clay County and he preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 2010. Violet is survived by her son and daughter and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and a brother. Another sister died in infancy.
