      SAMUEL M. BRYANT
      1871-1935
Samuel M. Bryant, the eighth child of a family of 12 children born to William and Elden (Elender) Bryant, was born in Morgan county, Indiana, September 15, 1871, and died at his home in Owen county six miles northwest of Paragon, Wednesday evening, Nov. 20, 1935, being at time of death 64 years, 2 months and 5 days old.
Samuel received his elementary school training at the Smith school west of Monrovia.
He was united in marriage to Isabell Fisher, Feb. 17, 1892. and to this union were born four children, two of whom survive, Mrs. Mabel Marie Applegate and Franklin, both residing in Owen county near the home of the deceased. An infant son and a daughter, Elizabeth Ellen, preceded him to that Isal of Somewhere.
Of the family of 12 children only four are living. These are Johnie of Mooresville, Zack of Indianapolis.
Hester Rudd of Bloomingdale, and Gilbert of Danville. He is survived by one grandson, Jack Lloyd Applegate.
Samuel confessed Christ and united with the Samaria Baptist church in 1924 under the pastorate of the Rev. Jack Caldwell at which place he ever retained his membership.
Samuel was a good neighbor, always ready to administer to those in need and less fortunate than himself. This we regard as highly complimentary. He was industrious and successful in business.
His soul like unto the rest of us, had its poise and swing but the tendency was always onward and up wards.
The vicissitudes of good and evil fill up the life of man, and as was true of Samuel so it is with all of us. Sometimes the balance goes down on the negative side, sometimes on the positive side, but in the end God is the adjuster.
We share in the bereavement of the immediate family and relatives and may we derive consolation in pondering the Christian philosophy "That Samuel is not dead. He lives. Only the house in which he lived has fallen.
