  Vera "Pat" Louise Ames, 77, of Clay City, IL, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital, in Mt. Vernon, IL. She was born August 31, 1939 in Little Rock, AR, daughter of Edgar and Martha (Long) Sampson. She married Ray Ames on April 18, 1983. Pat was a cook at Knapps in Clay City and years ago waited tables at Little Diner. Pat enjoyed reading, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren. Pat is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ray Ames of Clay City; daughter, Debbie McCarthy and husband Elmo of Rinard, IL; son, Robert Taylor of Iuka, IL; daughter, Mary Cole and husband Robert of Clay City; daughter, Gaitha Miller and Jerry Britton of Noble; grandchildren, Billy King, Jeremy King, Matthew McCarthy, Christopher McCarthy, Kelsie Frederick, Amber Sanders, Cassandra Lagle, Nicole Taylor, Casey Taylor, Dustin Taylor, Katie Stanley, and Haley Miller; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Edith Woods; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda Stanford; brothers, Leo, Delmer, Robert, Richard, James, and Charles Sampson; sisters, Mary McClintock, Marie Cates, and infant sister, Phyllis Sampson.
