  	Dale was serving in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Thor when his ship was on 24 hour shore leave at Norfolk, Virginia. He and another buddy were going over to another ship docked there to visit. The exact story never came out but Dale drowned in the Elizabethan Bay there. It was 6 days before they recovered his body. He was 20 years old. Foul play was suspected but never proven.
