    • ALLERTON - Delilah (Rice) Bailey, 86, of Allerton, died (Jan. 14, 2003) at Manorcare Nursing Home in Urbana.

      She was born Oct. 24, 1916, in Richland County, the daughter of Mathew and Bertha Mae (Stallard) Rice. She married Gleason L. Bailey April 12, 1941, in Hoopeston. He died July 2, 1986.

      She is survived by two sons, Robert Bailey of Portland. Ore., and Gary Bailey of Allerton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one sister, June Steckler of Mount Carmel. She was preceded by two brothers.

      Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Allerton Methodist Church, Alliance Chapter of DAR and the Allerton Historical Society and was a 50 year member of OES of Allerton. She worked as a registered nurse for over 50 years and was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville for 23 years, retiring in 1984.

      Fineral services were held at Joines Funeral Home in Newman; Officiating: Rev. Carl Fox; Burial: Payne Cemetery in Brocton; Memorials: Allerton Methodist Church.
