- Russell D. Cook, age 89, of Rinard, Illinois, passed away Wednesday night, August 25, 2021, at Heritage Woods.
He was born April 30, 1932, in Flora, the son of Barney L. and Mary (Gregory) Cook. He was united in marriage to Mickie June Cailteux on November 26, 1950, in Olney, and together they have shared 70 wedding anniversaries.
Russell worked for Airtex Products in Fairfield, and later as a technician for Trunkline Gas Company until retirement. After retirement he drove a school bus for Flora School District #35. He also farmed on the side and raised cattle. Russell looked forward to family farm day each year and enjoyed taking the grandkids on side-by-side rides through the pastures and woods. Russell and Mickie were avid campers and especially enjoyed the friendships they made over the years while camping at Charley Brown Park. He was a member of the Xenia Christ United Church.
He is survived by his wife: Mickie Cook of Rinard; a son: Steve (Mary) Cook of Carmi; grandchildren: Kristen (Jeremy) Smiddie of Carmi, Kendra (Andy) Knott of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Karie (Danny) Farris of Newton; great-grandchildren: Jaxson and Madison Smiddie, Hattie, Sydnie, Ellie, and Josie Knott, and Adelyn, Landen, and Brady Farris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Janice Cook; and a brother: Bobby Cook.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Bunker Cemetery. Those attending are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery.
