- Marjorie Ellen McDowell, age 92 of West Salem, IL passed from this life to the next on December 26, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Marjorie was born on March 6, 1923 in Belmont, IL to Alvin "Buddy" and Etta (Leach) Over.
She married Clayton R. McDowell on June 28, 1947 in Golden Gate, IL.
Marjorie attended Albion schools and graduated from nurses training at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO and later graduated from Eastern Illinois University with her Bachelors' Degree in Nursing.
She was a Veteran of WWII, who served in the Army Nurse Corp as a First Lieutenant.
Marjorie retired from Richland County after serving as the Public Health Nurse for over 30 years.
She was a member of the West Salem Christian Church and was also a lifetime member of the Olney American Legion.
Marjorie was instrumental in starting a local Bridge Club which involved people from several counties and she was also active in the West Salem Pretty Women's Red Hatter Group.
She was loved and will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
Private services will be held with military rites and she will be laid to rest in Shiloh Cemetery beside her husband Clayton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Robert Over.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Linda Merrick, two grandsons: Lewis (and wife Kim) Merrick and J.R. Merrick all of West Salem, IL. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Emily Sutton and Clayton Merrick, one great-great granddaughter, Carter Jean Sutton and one step great-granddaughter, Tasha Kennedy.
Memorials may be made to the family for expenses.
