  Richard Eugene "Dick" McDowell, age 89 of West Salem, Illinois passed from this life to the next on February 22, 2017 at Rest Haven Manor in Albion, Illinois. Dick was born May 18, 1927 in West Salem to Clifton and Emily (Robinson) McDowell. He married Jeanette Miller on December 26, 1951 in West Salem, and she preceded him in death on January 20, 2015. He worked for the railroad, and later owned and operated McDowell's Grocery Store in West Salem. He was a member of the West Salem Masonic Lodge. Dick is survived by two sons: Terry and wife Geralyn McDowell of Sugar Grove, Illinois and Steve McDowell of West Salem; one sister, Ruth Ann Parker of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; four grandchildren: Elizabeth, John Allen, Rachel, and Rebecca; and four great-grandchildren: Aiden, Gavin, Olivia, and Connor. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers: Clayton and James; sister Patsy Kitchene, and grandson James Andrew.
