- Ted L. Shaffer, Sr., age 73, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 12:02 PM Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois.
Funeral services for Ted will be held at 7:00 PM Friday May 6, 2022, with visitation from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois with full military rites. Arrangements are in the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
In loving memory of Ted, memorial may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Disabled American Veterans and can be mailed to the funeral home. The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.
Ted was born on May 12, 1948, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Jack and Keitha (Cummins) Shaffer. He married Susie Hill, on September 2, 1972, in Shorewood, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on April 13, 2019.
Ted was a member of the Class of 1967, Casey High School.
Ted served his country in the United States Army, serving two terms in Vietnam. During his service time he was awarded The Air Medal, The Bronze Star Medal and the Vietnam Combat Certificate. He helped build the Newton Power Station, working in various positions before retiring as Control Room Operator.
He was a very active member of the Casey VFW Post #5762, Jasper Post #20 American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4475 Embraw River.
Ted is survived by:
Children - Jackie Shaffer of Davenport, Iowa; Mindy (Karl) Koenig of Winter Garden, Florida; Teddy L. (Jesse) Shaffer Jr. of Newton, Illinois and Ashley Shaffer of Swansea, Illinois
Ted was blessed with eight grandchildren - Lekye Shaffer, MaKayla Koenig, Cole Shaffer, Jaetis Shaffer, Zach Koenig, Steven Shaffer, Hartley Shaffer and Moxx Shaffer.
Siblings Valena (Munch) Patridge of Newton, Illinois; Larry (Casey) Shaffer of Newton, Illinois and Donnie (Karen) Shaffer of Newton, Illinois.
Brothers and Sister in Law - Donald (Barbara) Hill of Little Rock, Arkansas; Richard (Wyvone) Hill of Wichita, Kansas and Brenda Jean Hill.
His faithful companion Dog Mackie
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, wife Susie, brothers Ed and Richard Shaffer.
