OLNEY - Charles L. "Dot" Martin, 81, of Olney died 6:35 a.m. Friday (March 5, 2004), his father's birthday, in his home surrounded by his family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney, with Minister Larry Weber and Pastor Mark Mathis officiating. Burial will be in Crest Haven Cemetery, Claremont, with military rites. Memorials: Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.
Mr. Martin was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Olney, the son of Arthur R. "Brownie" and Delpha Ikerd Martin. He was a retired U.S. Postal Service clerk and affiliated with Christian Church of Olney and Elm Street Christian Church, Olney.
He was a past commander and member of VFW Post 4226, Olney. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He enjoyed his family, boating and fishing with his son and grandson, and playing pool with his buddies. He was a retired Postal Service clerk. He married Wanita J. Winsor on April 11, 1943, in Fayetteville, N.C.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years; daughters, Diane Wood of Decatur; Sally Siesky and husband Larry of Evansville, Ind.; son, George Martin and wife Kathy of Olney; sisters, Genevieve LeFever and Geraldine Hagan, both of Olney; brother, Lloyd Martin and Imojean Wood of Olney; sister, Barbara Bishop and husband Bryant of Battle Ground, Wash.; brother, Larry Joe Martin of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, William Christopher Wood and wife Rose of Decatur; Lindsey Martin of Olney; Chad Martin of Olney; great-granddaughter, Brianna Wood of Decatur; great-grandsons, Justin, Jeremy and Jonathan Wood, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; special angel grandsons, Brian Michael Wood and Patrick Aaron Johnson; and son-in-law, Don Wood.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be forever missed by his family and friends.
