- God called Floyd Wayne Earnest, 86, of Newton, Illinois home at 2:45 p.m., Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Newton Rest Haven, Newton, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 25th, 2013 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, IL. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery, Newton with military rites by Jasper Post 20 of the American Legion.
Mr. Earnest was born on April 12, 1927 in Arcola, Illinois the son of Wayne and Opal (Webster) Earnest. He married Wanda Lee Kibler on September 22, 1946; she preceded him in death on July 6, 2002. He lived in Arcola, IL from 1927-33; 1933-41 went to Jones School House; 1941-45 attended and graduated Newton High School; 1945-46 was in the Seabees stationed in the Philippines and China during WWII; 1946-51 he worked at various jobs; 1951-52 he owned the Texaco Gas Station in Newton; 1953-56 he worked for Babb's Ford Tractor in Newton; 1956-62 he was a farmer; 1963-67 he worked at Rich-law (FS) in Newton; then went back to farming in 1967-69; 1970 he worked for Webster Ford in Newton; 1971-74 he worked at Marshall Funeral Home, Newton; 1974-1990 he was the Transportation Director for Jasper County Unit 1 Schools until his retirement. While performing a variety of jobs, Floyd remained a farmer. Memberships include the Falmouth United Methodist Church, American Legion, Newton Masonic Lodge for 33 years, Jasper County Farm Bureau, and ASCME retirees. Former member of the Rotary, ROVA American Vets, Lions, Kiwanis, N.A.P.T., Jasper County HIA, and Newton Volunteer Fire Department.
Floyd is survived by children, Darrel L. (Nancy) Earnest of Newton, Terry A. (Debbie) Earnest of Highlands, TX, Marsha A. (Ron) Candrl of Wentzville, MO, Rebecca S. (Carl) Wilson of Dieterich, and Kevin F. (Brenda) Earnest of Newton; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Norman (Myrna) Earnest of Olney, Neil (Barb) Earnest of Mt. Carmel, IL, Don (Donna) Earnest of Florissant, MO.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Eric S. Earnest, an infant brother, and granddaughter Christina Earnest.
