- Vincent Francis Jack' Kistner, 85, of Newton, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton with Father Al Kemme celebrating Mass. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2011, at the church. Arrangements are under the care of Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton.
Jack was born on April 29, 1926, in rural Newton, the son of George and Catherine (Volk) Kistner. He married Charlene Rose Zuber on October 12, 1949, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stringtown. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2009.
Jack was a lifelong farmer and road commissioner of Fox Township in Jasper County for 20 years. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree member of the Newton Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his four sons, Ed (wife Janet) Kistner, of Effingham, Allen (wife Carla) Kistner, of Gila, Ron (wife Sharon) Kistner, of Neoga, and Rick (special friend Jackie Menke) Kistner, of Newton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Rosetta Bolander of Newton.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Kenneth and Melvin Kistner; and three sisters, Gertrude King, Maude Wagner and Mildred Ochs.
